How You Can Turn Getting Fired into Millions Like Pat Flynn
I woke up Sunday morning and was thinking about how to write better
As crazy as this sounds, I woke up and was thinking what do I need to do to write better? You may be thinking the same thing.
Normally, I hop out of bed, brush my teeth, wash my face, and put some clothes on. Today was not one of those days. I woke up, laid there, and was just thinking.
Writing has been a big part of my life over the past 10 months. What started out as something to pass the time, writing has become an obsession. Real estate investor and entrepreneur Grant Cardone talked about becoming obsessed a few years ago.
Become obsessed about the things you want otherwise you are going to spend a lifetime being obsessed with making up excuses as to why you didn’t get the life you wanted.
As a writer, you need to become obsessed with your work, plan for your writing, and analyze your stats. If you are writing and don’t care about your work, then this may simply be a hobby for you. I’m obsessed to be a better writer.
I didn’t start the 2020 year thinking about writing though it crossed my mind from time to time. I started writing or blogging around 2010 as I was reading Pat Flynn. Pat created the blog Smart Passive Income.
When I started to read his information, I saw he crossed $10,000 a month as a blogger. Over the years, his monthly income grew bigger and bigger.
Pat didn’t start out as a blogger. He was fired from his job as an engineer and he made the best use of his time. While studying for an exam, Pat created a website on the LEED exam for his role as an architect. Little did he know that website was the start of his freedom. From there Pat created his blog Smart Passive Income. Within six years, Pat earned over $3 million.
I was reading his blog and fascinated Pat was living the dream life. Who wouldn’t want to be their own boss and spend time with their family? Basically Pat was writing just as you are now.
If you want to do the same, this is exactly what Pat did. Pat filled a need. Create information that people are curious about and want to learn more information. You are an expert at something that others do not know the answer to.
You may have to do a little more research but I’m sure you are further ahead than others. Take the time to help people who want to know how to write better, invest their money, buy a house, or many others. Put in the time to do the extra work and research information on what people need.
From there, don’t be afraid because you will be in demand and then public speaking may be next and pretty soon, you’ll run your own annual conference. In July 2019, Pat held his first annual conference called FlynnCon.
When I first started reading Smart Passive Income, I created a blog, Teeball Baseball Blog. This was when my son played tee-ball and there weren’t many sources of information about tee-ball. I read several books and blogs that were online. Most of the blogs were created years ago and no one was updating the information. So I found a need.
Today over 2 million kids play tee-ball. This took up a lot of my time as I was learning to blog, create a website, reading about the latest plugin, and so on. When I finally completed my learning process on blogs, I was able to get the website to rank number one on Google.
My son stopped playing tee-ball and I let the blog die. Some days I wonder if I should have kept it going. Who knows where I would be today.
Final thoughts
This year, life changed for everyone. The coronavirus wreaked havoc on businesses, jobs, education, and personal lives. You may have been affected as well.
Sitting back and thinking, now is the time you need to figure out what need can you fill. Who can you help in the New Year? Use your talents and fill that need.
You must be good at something. Take your idea and Google it.
- Is there information online about that topic?
- Are writers creating work on that information?
- Have people written books on that problem?
- Are there YouTube videos on that subject?
- What question can you solve for millions of people?
Figure out the need you can fill and turn the coronavirus into a blessing as you head into 2021. The time to make next year, a great year, is now. You need to plan what you will do in the new year.
