No, this is not science fiction — this is real life.

Reading someone’s mind and manipulating their emotions is entirely possible. I know this because I do it all the time.

It doesn’t require any special helmet with wires and antennas or supernatural abilities. All that you need is the power of observation and awareness.

A person’s body language can tell you a lot about what they are thinking — each body part has meaning and can portray different thoughts or emotions.

The mouth can be used to smile, frown, or show disbelief.

The eyes can reveal if someone is interested, bored, or angry.

The hands can show if someone is nervous, enthusiastic, or anxious.

The feet can show if someone is tense, relaxed, or ready to leave.

These cues can be read and interpreted to understand what someone is thinking or feeling without a single word being spoken. The human brain’s subconscious is incredible at sending signals to each body part, whether the body knows it or not.

One of my favorite pastimes is people-watching — you can learn so much about a conversation by observing from afar. The next time you are at a party or around lots of people conversing, look at their feet (as weird as that sounds). Unless they are also body language experts, everyone’s feet will be pointing to their desired target.

If someone is talking but is pointing their foot towards the door, it often signals that they want to leave. If someone talks to another person they admire or find attractive, they will subconsciously angle their foot towards them.

The human body is an open book, and understanding how to read it can give you a leg up in any situation.

Body Position

Your body position also plays a role in the first impression you make. If you’re crossed-armed or closed-off, you’ll come across as unapproachable. On the other hand, if you’re open and welcoming, you will invite more conversation.

Giving off these body signals is just as important as reading others’. If you want to read another’s mind and know their thoughts, you need to listen to what they are saying nonverbally.

I’ve seen people have entire conversations with just their eyes. I’ve seen people use their whole body to emphasize a point. I’ve seen people use their hands to keep from fidgeting, and I’ve seen people use their feet to signal romantic interest.
