How You Can Have a Successful Blogging Start Here Too
My start surprised me
For me, like many here, blogging is a side job. I manage my 2 main jobs in Berlin. As a forklift truck driver and as a techie coder. And then I still have my soul job.
Being mum to May (5).
Blogging is a fun adventure for me. A means of making some money doing what I like to do. I don’t plan on becoming one of those bloggers who gives blogging advice and sells paid courses.
That’s just not me. It’s a pyramid scheme. And I don’t want to waste my time on those. But I do know a lot of writers who would be salivating for this info.
So, let me tell you a bit about my start here anyway.
First of all, I became a member. Because in August, the Partner Program changes to only members. It will have helped my algorithm. Most probably.
“Note: existing Partner Program writers will not be required to become members at this time, but if we do add this requirement at some future date, we’ll announce this intention with a generous grace period beforehand.” — Buster Benson
My first story was published in June. I wrote 33 stories so far. I was accepted in 6 publications. I mostly publish in
- Unpopular Opinions by Melanie J.
- Code Like a Girl by Dinah Davis (She/Her) Nim J Mariana Carvalho
- Modern Women by ADEOLA SHEEHY-ADEKALE and many others, also Mariana Carvalho
- Afrosapiophile by Johnny Silvercloud and others
My publications are really my tribes. I follow their editors and their writers. And I read read read their submissions. We have conversations. We are friends. That’s what social media are for. Friendship.
Complaining
The worst thing you can do in blogging is complaining. Especially about your platform or your editors. They take time working with you. You should be grateful that they gave you the opportunity.
I’m grateful…
Of course, you are supposed to have opinions and write from your personal perspective. However, the #1 bloggin rule is to provide value for your readers. They want an ohhhhh or ahhhhhh. They want memorable stories about things that interest and entertain them.
Boosting
My results so far are not bad. I hear many bloggers complaining that they cannot even pay for their membership. But I can. Easily. So, its fair to do that. Pay for pay.
And I make a profit because I provide good reader value.
In the new Medium algorithms, boosting plays an important role. So, of course I strive for boosts. How does that work? Medium chose some editors/writers to look out for good, memorable stories.
These editors can nominate. A Medium team decides on the boost.
I have not not been boosted yet. I’ll let you know when I succeed and how I did it. After all, for a coder with some idea about algorithms, it’s no rocket science.
Medium loves interaction. So, interact honestly. Never be arrogant. Read read read. Clap if you like it. And comment often for support.
We are a tribe!
Ariana Grande
And for motivation, let me end this story with a song by Ariana Grande. Successful. Good luck, my friends! I’m onto something here…
