Writing may not seem like the most important part of your life — especially if you are not a professional writer. But a lot depends on how you formulate your thoughts when writing:

  • do people understand you or not
  • do they listen to you
  • do they act as you want
  • what do they think about you

You have to write a text every day of your life. You express your mind by writing letters, advertisements, articles, and presentations. People create opinions about you using your writings — in fact, you are judged by your text.

You may think:

Oh, it’s not about me. I’m not a writer. My work isn’t even related to writing text.

Is it really so?

Everyone writes

Writing isn’t a secret skill of journalists and writers. Manager in the office, a clerk in the bank, a teacher at school, even a bureaucrat in the government — all of them write something. They change the world with their text no less than professionals — writers and journalists. No less than you do.

A graduate writes a letter to get a job — it’s a text. The quality of this letter affects the beginning of his career. Will he get a job in an interesting and promising company or go to work in a low-paying job, like his uneducated peers.

An entrepreneur prepares a contract — it’s also a text. He may be sued based on this text. In this case, the fate of the business, employees, and even their families will depend on the clarity of the contract.

The mayor’s office decided to reconstruct the streets in the middle of the city. People don’t like it, because special equipment impedes the passage and makes noise. The mayor’s press center explains to people why reconstruction is needed and how it will then improve everyone’s life later. If the message explains the situation simply and clearly, people will understand and won’t complain.

Teacher creates economics textbook. The textbook is good, so schools use it. Depending on the quality of text in the textbooks students will learn or not economics. One of these students in the future will become Minister of Finance.

Ecologist publishes articles on the greenhouse effect and global warming. The future of the planet and humanity depends on the credibility of the articles. Can his words convince people to act or not?

Takeaway

Text is part of your life. It affects any kind of activity. Moreover, text influences the result of your activity.

The high-quality text helps you to succeed. A low-quality one eliminates your success chances.

That’s why Writing is an essential skill for everyone. You need to learn how to write clear and convincing text. Text that people would like to read. Text that will express your mind in the right way. Text that makes people trust you.
