Fame or Fortune?

Would you want to be rich and famous? I would not care to be famous; however, I would love to have enough money to donate to the causes I care about and help people without having to check my bank account first.

I deeply admire Taylor Swift. My friends from high school — Bryce and Aaron Dessner, write and play music with and for her. They have spent much time with her and speak highly of her as a songwriter, incredible human, and philanthropist.

Taylor Swift Taking The World Her manager once took advantage of Taylor Swift. Now, she has taken her power back. She is a role model for all women. She is a leader in the music industry. And she is a beautiful soul.

Although I have not attended her concerts, I understand she is fully dedicated to her fans. She will even play through fierce storms. I look forward to seeing her live someday, hopefully with my friends, The National. She is a great example of someone Rich & Famous who is doing well and right with it.

Philanthropy

Taylor Swift has been known to treat her staff well, and she also gives to many food banks nationally. I admire her for generously giving without requiring recognition. That tells me she is doing it for the right reasons.

If I had an endless supply of money, I would love the ability to share money with random people. I would love to see the expression on their face when I pay their road toll, and I look in the review mirror and wave or knock on their door and hand them cash to pay their next mortgage, hand them a pizza, and then hug them and walk away. I would find such pleasure in that — no strings attached. Just being able to add joy to people’s lives randomly.

Being Rich is Not Synonymous With Happiness

Money does not bring happiness. In fact, I know many affluent people who are lonely and miserable. Sadly, I have also known a handful who committed suicide even though many thought they had it all. With fame comes pressure.

Final Thoughts

I am so happy for the fame Taylor Swift has acquired and is continuing to grow. She deserves it. She is beautiful inside and out, regardless of whether you appreciate her music. Someone with that pure intention deserves to reach the moon. And it is no shock that she gives back so compassionately.

As for me, I do not desire fame. I desire to help people. If I had enough money not to have to worry about working, I could give my time, money, and resources to helping others. Although I love what I do, I may help others more than I know.
