Summary

Rohini Singh recounts her journey into writing, initially sparked by a personal connection and a broken heart, which transformed her perspective and led to the discovery of her own poetic voice.

Abstract

Rohini Singh shares a personal narrative about how she began writing. Initially, she lacked the inspiration and imagination to write, despite her desire to do so. The catalyst for her writing came from an encounter with a person who touched her heart, leading her to document the minutiae of their interactions. This process of writing became a form of catharsis, particularly during a period when her heart was closed off. Over time, the act of writing evolved from a means of coping with heartache to a cherished practice, with the items she collected during that period serving as tangible reminders of her beginnings as a writer. Rohini reflects on her early work with a sense of humor and nostalgia, recognizing its significance in her journey, and she invites others to share their own stories of how they started writing.

Opinions

  • Rohini believed she lacked the imagination to write until she experienced heartache, which she credits for unlocking her ability to compose poetry.
  • The act of writing was initially tied to specific objects and memories associated with a significant person in her life.
  • She views her early poems as naive yet valuable, as they mark the origin of her writing journey.
  • Rohini's mother played a role in preserving her early work, suggesting that these writings would hold sentimental value in the future.
  • She extends an open invitation for others to share their writing origins, indicating a belief in the shared experience of writers and the power of storytelling.

How We All Started “Writing”?

A poem and a question.

I had no clue Of writing my way to my heart The heart was closed The pen was far

One day, I saw someone It felt like something He was the only hope To open this messed up heart

I had no clue When I started writing About every single detail Of everyday happenings

The writing was nothing special It was about the pen he touched About the water bottle, he asked me The same color we wore

You know now I am a dreamy girl Who believed in my heart Just because it was like a sun and stars

The year ended With the souvenirs in my box The pen and the bottle With the dairy of my hope

That was the day I wrote last time For the next 2 years It was just a pen and a notebook

The heart was closed The dairy became notebook And Yes with the broken heart I started writing.

I always wanted to write because I had few friends who used to write poems, stories, and articles but I never had the imagination to write. There was one girl who used to say if you have a broken heart you can write poetry and I think in my case it worked.

“If you have a story to tell on how you started writing please do tell me as a poem or story or in responses feel free to share it with me.”

A confession:- “I still have that bottle but I am not sure about the pen and that dairy I wrote, the long dreamy poems make me laugh. I wanted to throw them away but my mother told me to save them so I can look at them after 20 years and say to myself ‘Oh so that’s how I started writing’.”

A little something about me Rohini Singh.
