How Wasting Ten Minutes A Week Makes Me Feel Better
My Perfect Pairing
It’s Friday afternoon and my muscles are starting to relax. If I am working from home, I breathe a different kind of air in my house. For the first time in the week, I look around and notice how dusty my house is, yet the atmosphere is fresh and light. It’s the excitement of what is coming: some rest!
I will finally find time for the things I love.
Usually, I receive that last phone call from work, which takes much longer than planned, and it pushes the pleasure away. But then it’s over. It’s the weekend and I have some rituals to perform.
First, I go around the house and water my plants. They need some encouragement now because I neglected them for five days. Then the ritual starts.
Since during the week, I don’t drink alcohol or sodas, but only water or fruit juice, I can finally pour a glass of white wine and prepare a little appetizer with what I have in the fridge: chips, little onions or gherkins, or cherry tomatoes.
I prepare it and put everything on a nice tray with ceramic saucers.
During the week I whip up something light, but on Friday afternoon, a door is closing to stress and opening to a new person, who is also fond of cooking!
I sit on my sofa, look at the empty space, and talk to my cat.
It’s like the lyrics of a song: “I’m sitting on the dock of the bay wasting time”.
I actually waste some time: I enjoy the moment and stop thinking.
In ten minutes, I become a different person and find myself again.
Thank you Trista Signe Ainsworth for reminding me that we deserve to enjoy the pleasures in life, and for making me think about my perfect pairing.
