Summary

The web content reflects on the author's mental and physical health journey over the past year, emphasizing the development of mental health routines and the need to refocus on physical health, while also inviting others to engage in a reflective writing exercise.

Abstract

The article titled "December Self-Care" delves into the author's personal experience with mental and physical health throughout the year. The author describes their mental health as improving over time due to the establishment of beneficial routines and habits, which helped them progress despite challenges. In contrast, their physical health, which saw an initial improvement when they started exercising in March 2020, eventually declined as the workout habit was not maintained. This realization has prompted the author to plan for renewed focus on physical health in the coming year. The piece also serves as a poetry, writing, and reflection question prompt, encouraging others to reflect on their own mental and physical well-being. The author tags several individuals and invites them to participate in the prompt, providing instructions on how to join and share their reflections. Additionally, the author expresses anticipation for featuring some of these reflections in "The Brain is a Noodle" publication and requests tagging for inclusion in a favorites archive. The article concludes with a personal note from the author, Lucy (The Eggcademic), who expresses gratitude for her mental health support and seeks suggestions for physical health activities.

How was your mental and physical health?

Poetry, writing and reflection question prompt

my mental health had a positive slope, starting off at a rough spot rounding off for the rest of the year as I built routines and habits that slowly inched me forward despite the setbacks.

my physical health had a negative slope not because there was a serious decline but because of the change in pace inspired me to start working out in early March 2020 that casually waned as the habit was not sustained.

this highlighted for me that the habits built for mental health are now smooth sailing and moving on their own and that there’s now space and time for me to shift towards building up my physical health again.

Lucy (The Eggcademic) [she/her] is grateful that in this time, she had the safety, comfort and access to mental health resources she needed, and that it finally was a good fit for her. Next year, she’ll be working on physical health, hoping to work on some kind of movement in her day (stretching? yoga? walks???). Suggestions welcome!
