Summary

The Volksempfanger (People's Receiver) radio, introduced in 1933 Nazi Germany, was a powerful tool for the dissemination of Nazi propaganda, which significantly influenced the German populace and contributed to the nation's downfall during World War II.

Abstract

The Volksempfanger, a radio designed to be affordable for the masses, was instrumental in spreading Nazi ideology throughout Germany. Introduced in the same year Adolf Hitler rose to power, the radio became a daily source of propaganda, with Joseph Goebbels, the Minister of Propaganda, controlling the content broadcasted. The radio not only served as a means of entertainment and information but also as a vessel for Hitler's compelling speeches and the regime's antisemitic narratives. The widespread adoption of the Volksempfanger played a crucial role in shaping public opinion, fostering a sense of racial superiority, and maintaining support for the Nazi regime until its eventual defeat in World War II, which left the country in ruins.

Opinions

  • The Volksempfanger was initially an expensive technology reserved for military communication but was later made affordable to ensure widespread adoption among the German public.
  • Hitler's oratory skills were likened to Mozart's symphony, captivating listeners and manipulating their emotions to foster a sense of victory, superiority, and hatred.
  • The book "Mein Kampf," although mandatory in German households, was not as impactful as the radio in delivering daily propaganda and shaping public opinion.
  • Joseph Goebbels' role as the Minister of Propaganda was pivotal in using

Initially, the Volksempfanger was an expensive technology. It was being used only for military communication.

After the creation of the Volksempfanger(radio), Hitler started building Radio Stations. Radio was a symbol of luxury. Like in 1960, a television's glory used to be a luxury item, and the same radio used to get treated.

In 1933, An Austrian-born German Politician came to power as the leader of the Nazi Party. He was non-other than Adolf Hitler, who is worldwide known as the Dictator of Nazi Germany.

It was the same year when Volksempfanger was launched. Hitler was the most prominent scientific and innovative organism. He was the first mass leader to run a four-day election rally, measuring Germany from the personal plane of industrialists.

Hitler’s narration was excellent and compelling. Just understand that it was the same as Mozart’s symphony. Hitler’s speeches used to start with a slow, solemn, soft voice.

Everyone used to get so attentive, and their gesture becomes harder. Hitler’s voice gets louder and louder. Sometimes gets softened, then rises. Words and expressions get deep and robust. The speech goes on, and then he starts screaming throbbing chest.

He used to make the audience, felt joy, hope, victory, superiority, and strength and drag them to hatred. And finally, slow, soft, ending with a threat demanding peace. People get lost somewhere. When It used to get over, there was great applause.

The Mandatory Book “Mein Kempf”

According to Hitler, Nazi Ideology was necessary to reach every household in the nation. Adolf Hitler’s autobiography book name is Mein Kempf, which he wrote in 1925. Initially, the book’s sales were slow.

Predictably, Mein Kempf became a bestseller in Germany following Hitler’s rise to power in 1933. It was mandatory to place Mein Kempf in the Bible in every place, whether home, library or any public place.

But his book couldn’t do what Volksempfanger Radio did. A book cannot give you daily news agendas or new hopes. Whatever is written in that book, can only deliver that much.

Volksempfanger (People’s receiver)

The Volksempfanger was the innovation at that time; it could pass every narration to each German. It was an excellent tool.

This was the people’s receiver. The public used to receive Nazi propaganda on the Volksempfanger every day. Radio was made cheaper, keeping in mind the poor people. So each and everyone could afford it.

Poor laborers and farmers were delighted to get a cheap radio. They used to get the same feeling, like getting a good quality phone at a meager price. Taking the phone in hand, the happiness you feel.

In 1938 Joseph Goebbels(Hitler’s propaganda minister) celebrated his birthday by distributing free radios to the German people. Radio reached every home, which used to work most of the time.

While working, homemakers, laborers in the fields, on the factory floor, in hotel rooms, or in reception treated it like a mandatory tool everywhere. Songs, drama, and news were used to broadcast on the radio. Celebrities used to talk about themselves or their new announcements. It was a tremendous treasure of entertainment and information.

Joseph Goebbels (Minister of Propagnda)

What kind of entertainment and information to provide to everyone? Joseph Goebbels decided it. Joseph Goebbels was a German Nazi politician and the minister of propaganda in Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945. You can better understand Goebbels’ title as “The Minister of Information and Broadcasting.”

Goebbels was the most devoted Nazi, and he was very close to Adolf Hitler. A very skilled public speaker and proficient in deeply virulent antisemitism. Goebbels used to decide what the Germans would receive on the radio.

Manipulative events of history were used to deliver.

Every German used to receive “how Jews betrayed the great German country”?

People used to receive that how Germany has become the most advanced country in the world. There were programs on religion in which the audience was told that all Nazi opponents were against religion.

The radio broadcast Information on foreign affairs. It used to broadcast that how Germans were being persecuted in Czechoslovakia, Poland, and other areas.

Apart from this, there were stories of Hitler’s speeches, bravery, struggle, and strength.

Radio brought the Germans into a state of mind in four years, in which they realized that they are the best race in the world. Their race was made to rule.

The world has oppressed and betrayed them. That world was created by Jews, which is so powerful that it can compete with the whole world.

During the Second World War, the German public was sure of the victory because that’s what the radio was saying.

Hitler’s defeat and Consequences

When the Soviet Army was entering the capital. Everyone in Berlin was shocked.

The radio was claiming Hitler was winning the war with his miracle weapons. At the pinnacle of their success and trust in Hitler, the Germans did not consider the defeat and its consequences.

World war two wholly ruined the country. When Soviet troops were a few kilometers away from Hitler’s bunker, Hitler declared Goebbels as his successor. By handing over the power to Goebbels, expressing his faith on the radio. Hitler committed suicide.

All the radio stations of the new chief, Mr. Goebbels, were destroyed by the Soviet Army. Hitler ruined the country that was listening to his speech on the radio. Goebbels got the help of one dentist to inject morphine into his six children so that they would be unconscious.

Afterward, cyanide could be crushed in each of their mouths after poisoning his six children. He shot his wife and then himself.
