How To Write Highly Clickable Headlines .

I don’t remember exactly where in my crazy corporate sales life I got this, but it improves my conversion rate, maybe it helps you too.

Headlines.

No secret, the headline is the most important part of any content on the internet.

I believe it has always been, in most forms of communication medias, but with the explosion of digital marketing, the focus on it has been increasing exponentially,

But since forever, people have paid millions for the front cover of magazines,

and the text written on it, one of the most important elements,

I know it’s hard for some to accept, and might be a hard pill to swallow, but if your very informative and well written 2000-word article has a shitty headline, It’s dead.

The pictures, the cover might be stunning, but it’s the text, the one who reels people in.

Straight Talk, no bullsh*t?

Doesn’t matter how informative, interesting, or uncommon your content is, If your headline sucks, no one will even open it.

I won’t go deeper in this article on the importance of a good headline because if you’re reading this you probably understand it already,

If you don’t, I suggest you to start here and stay up to date.

But always have this in mind:

If you want to make money, people need to click.

Simple as That.

What makes a good headline?

Self Notes: Every headline has three objectives.

  1. Grab Attention.
  2. Keep Attention.
  3. Make People Act.

“How do you do it? Honestly? I don’t give a damm, find a way, we get numbers to meet” — My first “Sales Super Visor”, 20 years ago, When I asked how to grab attention.

I follow this up to this day, just focused and improved on the how, because arguing was useless.

The Lesson Number 1: Grab attention.

To be able to grab attention your first need to ask who’s attention are we grabbing?

you can start by understanding your audience.

“Who are you Writing For?” “What Problem Are You Solving For Them?”

By focusing on their pain points, understanding their daily struggle, what do they face in day-to-day life, where they wanna reach, what objective do they have for themselves, where they want to get,

and all stuff like this, you can understand what they give attention to.

Your Job is to understand all of those, and provide a way to solve your audience’s problems.

Once you understand those things, it’s get easier to write a headline which will be a sniper shot on the mind of your audience.

Because they will get instantly hooked by it,

Remember:

the average attention span of humans nowadays is 8 seconds.

If they don’t click with 8 seconds of reading, it’s lost forever on the sea of endless scrolling.

So you either make them act now, or they won’t act at all.

Another form you can grab their attention, is by learning their language,

and don’t mean language as idiom, I mean as a whole.

To learn how to speak with your audience in their language is a crucial step.

Have in mind, that the biggest part of people you meet in your daily life don’t communicate in the same way they do on the internet,

actually They don’t even speak the same way with themselves, imagine the one who they speak on the internet?

Learn their Language.

The CEO In a company, might be a farmer in the middle of nowhere, but the way you connect to the farmer, It is not the same way you connect to the CEO.

They don’t speak the same language, despite being the same person.

That’s why most gurus on the internet will tell you to niche down, you need to be found on where you want to be found, and speaking to who you can speak,

not shooting everywhere.

Once you niche down, you become able to gain trust from your audience,

Your language become honest, and humble.

A good salesman understands this, and speaks to everyone equally, believe you or not,

We are souless fuckers who just want your money,

And after hooking,

We reel You In.

The Lesson Number 2, Keep Attention.

The easiest way to maintain people attention is by Storytelling.

If you want to keep people’s attention, you need to understand how to tell a story,

How do you keep your audience’s attention while competing with everything else which tries to take their focus?

You tell a story. You tell a story they won’t forget and will want more.

Everyone loves to hear a good story, Netflix produces new stories every week and people keep watching like crazy, the movies never stop, book sales goes up and down, but are always there.

If you want to be a decent writer and make money from it, You need to learn how to tell stories the right way.

***Keeping your audience engaged once you start becomes easy if you truly understand them.

The development becomes easier If you know how to structure and just put each piece on its place to assemble the story together,

anyone can do it.

Storytelling is a craft.

You learn and You practice.

Even if you’re not a natural storyteller, you can study techniques such as “The Hero’s Journey from Campbell, and start telling well written structured stories which people will love.

Stories that create an urge, and makes the reader come back craving,

Speaks their language, and connects directly, plus gain their trust.

You become “a brother from another mother, mothafucker”, of your public, and then suddenly, you’re maintaining their attention.

Hook with the headline, reel In with Storytelling.

The Lesson Number 3: Make People Act.

The Average attention span of humans in 2024 is already lower than a goldfish,

8 Seconds.

Yeah, you didn’t read that wrong, and you can also check the study here, (btw I believe it’s already lower).

After you got attention with the hook, and managed to keep them inside the goldfish aquarium for more than 10 seconds,

You need to make them stay around, and come back around more, you know?

Like a good place to be, They need to like to be here, and they will like even more if they get something in return for staying around.

Because once the fish bubble passes, If they don’t subscribe, follow, or connect to you,

There is a huge chance that you’ll never see each other again.

To make people act, by creating the sense of urgency, is an art.

It’s a psychology hidden behind each story, copywriters study and become masters of persuasion with it,

The objective is to make people understand that the only way to get the real change they want in their lives, is to make them act In the now,

Not in the next Week,

Because Next week, Is an outcome of this week.
