How To Write A Blog Post That’s More Likely To Be Read
Mastering the Art of Blogging
As a writer, you’ve probably heard that the most essential part of your post is its headline. It’s true! A good, catchy headline is vital to getting people to click on your blog or article. But what about everything else? How do you make sure that your content really resonates with readers? There are many elements to consider when writing a blog post, and I’ve yet to mention how hard it is to create one! Should you use short or long paragraphs? Should I include an image or video? What keywords should I be using in my title and description? And so much more! This guide covers all these topics so you can write better-read blog posts every time.
Keep it short and sweet
In an age where attention spans are shorter than ever, it’s more important to make your writing as easy and quick to read as possible.
Short sentences are easier to read.
Short sentences are easier to remember.
Short sentences are more likely to be shared on social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and even Google. They allow for better page scanning by readers with attention deficit disorders like ADHD or dyslexia.
Write a catchy headline
It’s the first thing people see when they visit your site, so if you don’t make it enjoyable, they won’t bother reading further.
There are several ways you can do this:
Use a question, e.g., “How Do I Choose The Right Blog Post Title?”
—
Use a number, like “7 Tips For Writing A Killer Blog Post”. This works exceptionally well if you’re writing about how to do something or advising someone on how to proceed with something in their life or career. It makes them more likely to click through because it sounds like there will be some definitive answer at the end of this article. Ask for help, like, “What Should My Next Article Be About?”. People love asking questions and getting answers from others online. This is especially true when those others are experts on whatever topic is being discussed.
Try to avoid clickbait headlines.
Don’t use clickbait headlines.
Don’t use misleading headlines.
Only use headlines that are short enough.
Be useful.
The first step is to be helpful.
Write about something that will be useful to your readers. If you can’t tell them something they don’t know, or help them with a problem, don’t bother writing the post. Remember that people don’t read blog posts because they want an opinion. They read because there’s information to help them do something better or make them feel better. If your blog post doesn’t provide some value for the reader, then it probably won’t get read at all, and if it does get read and then ignored by most people who visit your site? That’s even worse.
Give them some information they can use immediately rather than just telling them things “for future reference.” This sounds obvious, but trust me when I say most writers only sometimes follow this rule. There are plenty of ways around this rule, though:
- Try breaking up longer pieces into smaller chunks.
- Write short paragraphs instead of long ones.
- Take advantage of bullet points or list items whenever possible. Whatever works best for communicating complex ideas clearly within an accessible format.
Be helpful
If you want people to read your blog posts, they must be helpful.
Helpful blog posts are more likely to be read because they provide value in some way or another. They share information that might help someone out and do it in a way that’s easy for the reader to understand. This can mean giving specific examples of how something works:
- Showing how different tools work together.
- Provide tips and tricks that readers can take advantage of right away.
- Explaining why something works the way it does so that even non-techies can understand it, the options are endless.
Include images and videos where possible
As a writer, it’s essential to remember that you’re competing with millions of other writers out there. And when it comes down to it, the only thing that will make your blog stand out is if people read what you have to say.
If you want people to read your blog post and not just skim over it, then including images and videos will help break up the text so that readers aren’t overwhelmed by blocks of text on their screens. They also give them something interesting or valuable for their eyes or minds to focus on while they digest what they read.
Images can illustrate points made in the text. For example, If I write about my experience learning how to code HTML and CSS one day while sitting at my desk at work which happened, then an image showing me sitting at my desk would help illustrate this point in my article.
Ensure you use the correct keywords in your blog post title and description
One of the most critical elements of blogging is ensuring that your post title and description are optimized for search engines. This can be done by using keywords in both places, but there are some things to consider before doing so.
First, ensure you’re using the correct keyword for each post. If you’re writing about using social media for business purposes, don’t use “social media” as a keyword; instead, try something like “marketing on social media.” It’s easy to get caught up in what seems like common sense when writing blog titles and descriptions, but if this isn’t something you’ve done before or think about often, like me, remember that don’t choose generic words unless they’re already proven winners.
Second, use long tail keywords instead of short ones whenever possible because they tend to generate more traffic than general terms over time due to their specificity and also because they tend to rank higher. For example, instead of saying “how-tos,” try saying “how-to-write an effective blog post in less than 30 minutes”. You’ll notice how much easier it is for people who need help with specific tasks rather than just getting general advice. Moreover, this will increase engagement since readers can easily find exactly what they were looking for without wasting time reading through irrelevant content along their journey toward enlightenment.
Writing an engaging and search-friendly blog post will make it more likely to be read by many people.
As a writer, you want to ensure your blog posts are engaging. You can do this by using exciting content and including keywords in the title and description of your blog post. But if you really want to get people reading your work, then you must write blog posts that are both engaging and search-friendly.
As we know from our previous article on keyword research links, there are many different ways people use search engines when looking for information online, and some of these methods may surprise you. So how do we ensure our articles rank highly on Google searches?
Write short sentences.
You want to write short sentences.
There are several reasons why this is a good idea, but let’s start with the most basic. Short sentences are better for readers. They’re easier to understand, remember and share. This is because they use simple words and structure, usually just one idea per sentence. If you want your blog posts to be more likely to be read and shared, try writing shorter sentences.
Underline keywords or phrases only if necessary, otherwise, try italicizing them or both. Italics are not used as often in web writing, so they’ll stand out more than underlining would do while still allowing us more flexibility when highlighting specific parts of our writing over others.
Have a hook
In the first paragraph of your post, you must ensure you have a hook. A hook grabs your readers’ attention and makes them want to read. It can be funny, shocking, or controversial. It just needs to be interesting.
Many writers use hooks in headlines because they know that people tend to skim over the headline before reading any further into the article itself, if at all. If you can get someone interested enough in what you’ve written about in those first few words on your page, they’ll continue reading until the end.
Writing a blog post is like writing an email. It’s designed for one person, the reader, and it’s supposed to get them interested in what you have to say. If you want your blog post to be read by as many people as possible, it needs to be exciting and engaging from the beginning.
