How to Use Twitter, LinkedIn, & Many Stories to Boost Your Medium Income

Let’s make it easier for readers to find your excellent work!

As is true with all writing, you cannot expect hundreds or thousands of Medium readers just because you wrote something excellent. How will they know? Sure, curation is one way to get eyes on your work.

However, using other social media channels to promote your work might be a much better approach. LinkedIn, Many Stories, Signal, Twitter, and Reddit can all bring readers to your stories if you use SEO keywords and direct promotion.

But if you are like me and many others who didn’t know about curation when we started, curation may never happen unless you start over with another profile.

OK, so many writers are rightfully disappointed with their Medium income. I started writing on Medium in March 2019. I got up to $87.29 in October, and then, they changed the payment system to read time from the number of claps received.

Although I understand why reads are more appropriate than claps, the decline in income had me disillusioned with the entire process. However, I would say, don’t quit. You might be one story away from a big payday.

My Writing Business Is Boring but Profitable

I stopped writing as much on Medium. I decided to focus on my writing business, where I was earning big money even though it was boring. You’ve probably read some of my stories lamenting about how boring it can be writing about immersion heaters, traffic tickets, septic tanks, and others.

These website owners need quality content, and many are willing to pay for it. But there’s nothing like being free to write about something you care about with an interested audience.

Maybe you’ve even read my micro-fiction, “My “friend” asked me, “Why don’t you get a real job?”

How to Boost Your Views

Granted, views do not necessarily translate to more money, but the more people who see your story, the more chance they are Medium subscribers. This is particularly true when you use the #medium hashtag.

With LinkedIn, I use a format like this to “write” four or five articles a day there.

First

Click Start a Post to begin. Created by the author with PowerPoint

Then

Enter Your Intro, Link, and Hashtags created by the author with PowerPoint

Click post, and that’s it. You won’t get big numbers from LinkedIn. I’ve been doing this for two months. I average about 10 views a day and only two or three of those are Medium writers.

However, I think the more of us start connecting on LinkedIn, other Medium writers will catch on to this method of promotion.

If You Do Not Have a Twitter Account, Get One

Because I understood the SEO process, my views were always good, but claps and reads are more difficult to muster merely using keywords to promote your stories.

Medium paid subscribers reading your stories are the only assurance of payment. Use hashtags on your Tweets such as, #blog #blogger #bloggerlife #bloggersrequired #blogpost #Blogs #bloggerssparkle #blogoftheday #bloggers #blogging #Wordpress #thebloglist #bloggingals #bloggerstribe #writingcommunity #writerslift #SEO #Medium #Writer #writers #writerslife #WriterLift #writerscommunity #writing #writerslife #amwriting #fiction #amwritingfiction

I have tested a lot of these and usually use #blogpost #writingcommunity #SEO #Medium and #writerslift when I can only use five like on LinkedIn, or I replace one or two with a topic specific hashtag.

However, on Twitter, you can use as many as you like.

One thing I missed with this is watch for #shameless self-promotion tweet. When you see one, add your most recent article link or your profile link to it and retweet.

You can also search for your articles keyword on Twitter, add your link, and retweet some of those. Some consider this “spamming”, I disagree. You are a subject matter expert (SME) and you are adding your expertise to the conversation.

I didn’t start using Twitter to promote Medium stories that much until I signed up for ManyStories. Then, someone told me about using #writingcommunity #Medium and #writerslift.

By using Signal, I picked up 49 unique readers on my first day. However, Signal is no longer available. I think it had to do with it being more or less a “bot” that automatically posted your Tweets.

Now, I post four or five Tweets three times a day.

Some talk about being a “presence” on Twitter and connecting with others on the platform. I so far have only communicated with other Medium writers and book authors. But I’m sure if I had more time, I would do more.

There are a variety of methods to use Twitter smarter, and I cover many of those in this article:

Make a ManyStories Account to Share Your Medium Stories

Use ManyStories to promote your Medium stories. Click on this link, https://www.manystories.com/ to start a profile.
