Summary

The web content discusses the importance of developing all psychological functions as per Carl Jung's theories to utilize the full potential of the brain.

Abstract

The article "How To Use 100% Of Your Brain" delves into the concept that while our brains are always active, we tend to use only a fraction of our psychological capabilities as identified by Carl Jung. These capabilities include thoughts, feelings, sensations, and intuition. Typically, an individual is dominant in one or two functions, with the rest remaining underdeveloped, often leading to behavioral issues and life challenges. The article suggests that to fully engage the brain, one must develop all psychological functions, which can be facilitated through dream interpretation and psychotherapy. It also touches on the balance between introversion and extroversion, emphasizing the need to embrace both for a well-rounded use of the brain.

Opinions

  • The author believes that our society operates under several myths regarding brain usage and that we are unaware of the full potential of our brains.
  • Carl Jung's psychological types are used as a framework for understanding how we can develop underutilized parts of our brains.
  • The unconscious mind, as manifested through dreams, is seen as a guide in personal development and problem-solving.
  • The article posits that an imbalance in psychological functions can lead to negative behaviors, such as being cold and calculating or overly emotional.
  • It is suggested that individuals often neglect the importance of their less dominant psychological functions, which can lead to deficient behavior and unwise decisions.
  • The author asserts that true brain development requires conscious effort to engage with undeveloped functions, which may be uncomfortable or challenging.
  • Introversion and extroversion are viewed as tendencies that can limit one's perspective, and the author encourages a balance between the two to enhance brain function.
  • The author acknowledges that while they can provide guidance, their suggestions are not a substitute for the comprehensive development that comes from following the unconscious directions in dreams, as per Jung's methodology.

There are several myths about how the brain works, as we ignore more than we know about this issue. In fact, our whole brain is always working, but we don’t use it to our advantage.

The psychiatrist and psychologist Carl Jung explained to us that we have four psychological functions: thoughts, feelings, sensations, and intuition. However, each of us has only one fully developed function and another partially developed function in the conscious part of our brain.

The other two and a half functions belong to the primitive part of our brain and do not help us solve our problems. On the contrary, these functions that were not developed consciously cause several problems in our behavior and in our life.

Therefore, we need to consciously develop all our psychological functions so that we can use 100% of our brain in a positive and productive way.

In order to develop all the psychological functions that we don’t consciously use we need to go through psychotherapy through the interpretation of our dreams. The unconscious mind that produces dreams works like a psychotherapist and shows us what we must do to stop being ruled primarily by a psychological function, with some help from the second psychological function partially developed in the conscious part of our psychic sphere.

Maybe you don’t have time to study Jung’s method in order to translate your dreams and go through the necessary process, so I will try to help you understand how you can improve your brain’s functioning even without following the unconscious directions in your dreams, although this help is not enough to help you fully develop your brain in a positive way.

If you belong to a psychological type based on thoughts, your feelings are stunted, since they are concentrated in the primitive part of your brain. Your second partially developed psychological function may be sensations or intuition, but never feelings since feelings are the opposite of thoughts.

You decide everything you do in life based on reasoning, regardless of how your heart feels. You even believe that you shouldn’t be weak and let your feelings for a certain person or place mislead you.

This means that you are a cold and calculating person. You might be cruel to those who love you and completely forget how much you loved a certain person in the past or how much you loved a certain place.

If you belong to a psychological type based on feelings this means that your thoughts belong to the primitive part of your brain. Your second partially developed psychological function may be sensations or intuition, but never thoughts since thoughts are the opposite of feelings.

If your most developed psychological function is based on feelings, you are unable to make decisions based on your reasoning. You have a tendency to get carried away by your feelings for others, especially when you are in love. You cling to places you like and that remind you of something you liked, without taking into account the negative aspects of this preference or the dangers that threaten you.

Likewise, if you belong to a psychological type based on sensations, this means that your intuition is stunted since intuition is the opposite of sensations.

Your sensations help you understand whether you feel well or not; if you are satiated or hungry, if you are cold or hot, if you feel comfortable or if you are feeling uncomfortable for some reason, and so on. This is the simplest psychological function because it is related to how your body feels.

If the most developed psychological function in your conscience is based on sensations, your second partially developed psychological function can only be based on thoughts or feelings, never on intuition, since intuition is the opposite of sensations.

If you belong to a psychological type based on intuition your sensations are stunted since they are the opposite of intuition.

Intuition is a psychological function based on guessing what might happen in the future, or understanding how a person will behave towards you, independently of a logical judgment. This deduction is based on impressions that cannot be justified, but they are well-founded because they warn you of what might happen to you in the future. Your intuition can pick up imperceptible signals to your reasoning, which help you understand various details about the future or about the behavior of others.

If the most developed psychological function in your conscience is based on intuition, your second partially developed psychological function can only be based on thoughts or feelings, never on sensations, since sensations are the opposite of your ability to guess various inexplicable factors through your intuition.

As you can see, if you act based on just one psychological function with the help of another partially developed function you don’t pay attention to many details. This means that your behavior is deficient and your decisions are not wise.

Therefore, in order to develop your entire brain and consciously use it all the time, you must strive to pay attention to the psychological functions that you are not consciously using.

In addition, you have a tendency to be introverted or extroverted, which also doesn’t let you analyze all the data you examine in your reality.

If you are an introvert you always relate everything to your opinion and often fail to be objective. You like to live isolated and you don’t care if you are the only one who acts in a certain way.

If you are an extrovert you always pay attention to other people’s opinions. You cannot be original and follow your own philosophy of life. You always need to follow the concepts of a certain group of people.

Therefore, if you are an introvert you must learn how to be more objective, and if you are an extrovert you must learn how to be original.

Try to understand the psychological functions you despise because they haven’t been developed in your conscience and try to be both introverted and extroverted at the same time.

This is very difficult, but if you will be persistent you will be able to use most of your brain to your advantage.

If you really want to consciously develop 100% of your brain you must translate your dreams according to Carl Jung’s method and obey the unconscious directions. This is not easy either, but you will be able to make progress in less time since you will be guided by the unconscious mind.
