How To Undo Claps 👏 on a Story

Suppose you unintentionally clap for a story

Oh, don’t be embarrassed, it happens to everybody.

One reader of Illumination asked me, “I read three paragraphs of a story, bookmarked it, and clapped for it. But later, when I read it to the end, I wanted to take back my claps. What can I do?”

But sometimes the situation is way more fun.

One excellent writer clapped for a story in which another writer was praising Donald Trump’s crazy policies. She felt positively embarrassed and left a comment on the story, “I accidentally clapped four times. I want everybody who reads this story to know that I am against what the writer is trying to say. I am sorry that I clapped without reading the full story. I take my claps back.”

Sometimes it is more serious.

A few months back, a reader clapped for a story that had an ending favoring racism. He felt terrible about clapping for that article. He wrote a new piece against racism and discrimination. He said he could never believe anyone would write such mean things.

The good thing is that there is a way out if you accidentally clap. It is simple.

  1. Go to the bottom of the story where you’ll see three horizontal dots.
  1. Click on the dots and click on ‘Undo applause for this post.’
  2. Done.

So when the next time you clap accidentally, you can take back your claps.

Enjoy.
