Stop running and Walk With Me Now. Yes, you have been running!

Where do you have time to sit back and introspect! Most of your time goes into reading, listening, watching for information, or entertainment.

FOMO is not helping you in any way. You are picking up unnecessary data, ideas, and thoughts on your way while you read important happenings on Twitter. You are filling up your mind-space with continuous episodes of Netflix series, Twitter trolls, Instagram fancies, and busy making side-hustle money. It is continuous information overload happening on you and it’s time you got to stop harming yourself with this!

Though you may agree with me partly on the above, are you wondering how FOMO is harming you? In the recent past, how many times have you observed yourself — body and mind, closely? Your breathing pattern changes based on your emotions — when you are upset, tensed, anxious, or worried, the change can be clearly sensed. How many times have you observed your breath change its patterns? Why couldn’t you observe — because you made yourself busy in the nitty-gritty forgetting that you are a Life !

  • You are partying your successful cracking of a business deal, but have you wondered how shattered your kid is at home because of his failure?
  • Have you ever thought about how your present lack of attention to your wife’s emotional needs will impact your family life in the future?
  • Did it come to your mind that in your mad run for career and money, what all ailments you are picking up given your complete negligence on health?
  • Have you tracked how your colleagues are secretly improving their qualifications & career, while you are daily attending your comfort zone?

Fast Forward: To Your Future at 65 Years of Age

Back to the Future — Who doesn’t like time travel! What if this fictional story can transform you into a completely different being? It worked wonders for me, believe me!

Getting straight to the point — For a moment just close your eyes and strongly imagine yourself in the future at 65 years of age, sitting in a chair, well dressed and well-groomed, fit and healthy deeply lost in thinking. Tame your mind, its you watching your future with your eyes closed.

Now it’s time folks to strike a conversation with your ‘65 years old you’ (say U@65). Start with these questions:

  • How is your life now? Do you feel fulfilled, satisfied and happy?
  • Do you feel healthy enough both in mind and body? What ailments did you pickup on the way ?
  • Did you create enough wealth for you and the family to lead a happy and comfortable life? Have you landed in your dream life?
  • Are you feeling fulfilled in duties towards your family? Are all your family relations maintained well?
  • Did all your major desires — dream girl, home, wealth and desired sex life get fulfilled?
  • I have your entire life as a video from start to end, run in 15min in front of you, reminding you of every life-impacting incident. I’m playing it for you.

Now that you have experienced both sorrow and happiness, what are your biggest regrets? What are the 5 most important aspects that you would want to change if I make you fly back in time?

I illustrate to you with an example — myself (I’m being honest). I@65yrs says :

  • I should have focussed more on education early in my life. I should have read more, written more, travelled more, and learnt more.
  • Should have waited for my beautiful partner to walk in, instead of running behind girls who were not for me — wasting my time & energy in youth.
  • All through my youth never focussed on my body personality. Should have prevented a number of ailments with diet, play, exercise and posture
  • I feared a lot in life. I should have left my comfort zone, ventured in early to take up entrepreneurship and my life would have been better.
  • Instead of mainly heeding to ideas of making money, side hustles, career — should also have observed and directed my kids in a better fashion.

Now it’s your turn to introspect my dear reader! Let your mind flow fully to your future self and ensure to collect your results by looking back at your present life. Close your eyes for better results.

Back to the Present : Pause to introspect what U@65 discussed

Did you hear that all ? How did you feel ? Now, you urgently want to work upon some of the points. But, wait. Analyse these problems for repititiveness.

Problems become repetitive if you have not learned how to tackle them in the past. So, did you encounter this problem before and what lessons did you learn from the past from the suffering?

Rewind: Now the boring part — Get back to your past, scrutinise it for learnings from the sufferings

Diarise your failures, your weak moments, emotional imbalances, procrastination, hasty decisions taken, and sufferings undergone unnecessarily. What would you have done differently in the past — you would have many different solutions and you may even laugh at your stupidity now!

But, whatever the case may be, don’t beat yourself down for your past. Ghatam Ghatam ! — Past is past, just learn the lessons and never dig back into what actually happened.

Back to the Present :

So, now you have recalled your wrongdoings of the past. Just see if this situation is a repetitive problem that can be tackled by a solution from the past experience and if not, you have a new fresh puzzle to solve.

At several points in time and at every major step, keep reviewing by referring to U@65 and asking yourself: The million-dollar question — What will I look back and regret?

You need to keep doing these above exercises consistently and continuously to analyse your life frequently. As you repeat the exercise, you keep getting better at it and the ultimate result will be mental clarity, fulfilment & satisfaction to a good extent in life.

Well, I am not saying that your life will become a bed of roses, but at least you will be able to steer your life in your direction to the extent it is in your hands.

Fast forward, Rewind, observe and act on the present. Travel in time to learn how to live a better life.
