How To Support Your Favorite Writer On Medium
50 claps, leaving a thoughtful response, is there any other way?
I have been on Medium for about almost 20 days and I have enjoyed my time while browsing this platform.
I got accepted to the Medium’s Partner Program, I started a Medium Membership and I have enjoyed many wonderful stories from many excellent writers.
As we know, Medium is a unique platform because it pays its writers according to the reading time they get on their published stories. So as you might know by now, the more time you spend on a post, the more benefits you give to that writer.
Is there any known way to maximize the support you could give to the writers you appreciate the most?
I have read in other posts that giving 50 claps and leaving a thoughtful response is the most elemental way to support other writers. But what about buying a Medium membership from the referral page of your favorite writer? I didn’t knew about this until one kind person become a medium member from my referral link this past week.

I started to notice from other people’s posts that at the end of their stories they shared a link in which you can become a Medium Member with their referral link. But I asked myself how could this person join Medium with my referral link if I haven’t posted this link on any of my stories.
So I clicked on one of those referral links and understood how this person might have landed at my referral page. If you want to become a Medium member and want to support your favorite writer, the following method will help you to accomplish it:
1. Discover the username of your favorite writer
Just go to your favorite writer’s profile and then click on the link of the website to see the username of your favorite writer. For the purpose of this example, my favorite writer will be Tim Denning.

As we can see, the username from Tim Denning is @ timdenning. Now we move to the second step.
2. Add the username of your favorite writer in this link after the @
This is the website link to become a Medium member through a referral: https://medium.com/@/membership
In this example, we will add the username of Tim Denning to this link
https://medium.com/@timdenning/membership
Now if you go and visit the link from above, you will see something like this:

If you still aren’t a Medium member, this will help you become a member plus you will support your favorite writer without an extra charge.
For those who are current members and haven’t joined the membership without a referral, I believe the only way is to cancel your membership and then go and visit the referral link of your favorite writer to become again a member.
When I joined Medium I just found out on my profile that there was a button to become a Medium member, but now that I have seen the support of some writers I would love to become their referral member.
Once my current monthly membership ends, I will cancel my membership to become a member through my favorite writer’s referral link. If you want to make someone’s day, you can do this too with your favorite writer.
I have learned these few days that Medium is about support and growth. We write to express our stories, feelings, and thoughts. My goal is to improve my writing skills and I know this might be the same goal for many writers here on Medium, and I know these kinds of lovely gestures will give those writers motivation to keep pursuing their goals.
