Phrases like oh, no, you don’t, I don’t think so, not so fast, wait just a minute. Remember others you have thought of if the unfairness of life has happened to you or someone you know.
Remember some of those times and capture as many of the details as you can. Capture how you felt at the time about what was happening to you or others.
See if you can increase the feelings and think about what a character you are writing about might do with those feelings. See how many directions your character could go with those emotions.
Select a direction and enhance the situation as you are creating the story around those details. Then take the next direction and repeat your story around those details. Continue with each story and fill in what is appropriate to go with those details and that direction.
Take the times you have thought, oh, no, you don’t and ask yourself, “what was happening and what are other things that might be likely sets of circumstances that would match those words.”
Determine what set of circumstances would cause you to react in that way. Use that to direct your story, including the situation, what happened, and how the problem resolved.
Writing this way can be a non-fiction or a fiction story, whichever you prefer to write. Use these approaches in different ways to increase your writing skills.
