Earth-stove is smoking Turn off the gas; call the wind Deep clean for more use

Tapan Avasthi 2019

Author’s pleading note: We are dependent on the earth’s natural resources to live. As chefs, we are using the raw materials of air, water, and soil to prepare our survival food. But it’s high time that we invest in the maintenance of our cooking stove, i.e., our planet earth.

While I’m writing this, I feel soreness in my throat, irritation in my eyes, and my lungs are choking with the polluted air. Everything is blur within a short radius of 100m. Air purifiers are under stress, and even their filters are not surviving long. They can signal an error when they need a replacement of the filter, but don’t you think our nostril-filters are irreplaceable. It’s not an exaggeration to say that we are not breathing air but smoke. God knows how we are still alive.

It is taken from the balcony of my apartment in broad daylight. It’s not blurred.

What do we do when we see smoke coming off the stove at our home?

First, we turn it off so that we don’t make things worse than what already is. Who likes to breathe smoke anyway? Like we pull the plug or turn off the gas depending on what kind of stove it is. In the same way, we need to turn off the smoke-emitting machines and focus more on fixing the scene. Yes, we can turn them on again later, but only when the situation is under control.

Secondly, we open our windows to let the fresh air fight the smoke. Don’t we? Isn’t that such an easy and quick thing to do? Yes, we need to plant trees as many as we can. We need their wind. They are the ones who can flush the pollution thoroughly. We need to empower them with all our intentions and energy.

Last but not least, deep cleaning a stove often helps to clear up the dirt, food-bits adust that’s burning to cause smoke. Well, before it gets worse than what it already is, we must do a deep cleaning of earth. Be it air, soil, or water — let’s clean them off our mess.

No, don’t think it’s charity work. It’s a selfish act of survival, my friends. If we need to live here longer and continue using the earth’s natural resources, then we better action.

Act today to see tomorrow!
