And whether you are publishing a book or just writing a short article, it can still take a great degree of your time to gain any noticeable success. And it takes a great deal of willpower to continue writing for a long period of time. And if you are not careful you might just burn yourself out. So the main question now is how do you stay productive despite the many obstacles in your way? Here are 5 Great tips on how to stay productive as a writer.
1. Have a set schedule
One of the most important thing about staying productive as a writer is to have a set writing habit. This is why you should have a set schedule for yourself. By having a set schedule for yourself, you will be able to have a regimented outlook on the book writing process. That way, you won’t waste any time procrastinating. You should set your writing sessions at times where you are at your freest. It could be early in the morning or late in the evening. It does not really matter though. What matters is that you can keep the set schedule on a consistent basis.
2. Make a to do list for every day
Aside from having a set schedule, it is important that you have a to do list for every day. That way, you will know what writing task to prioritize. It will also make your writing sessions more focused and time oriented. You can write down all the tasks you need to accomplish for the day the night before. That way, once you do get started, you won’t have to think about what needs to be done. You just need to take a look at your list and start on the task at hand.
3. Take a break every once in a while
As it was stated earlier, it is pretty easy to burn yourself out. This is why you should take breaks throughout writing sessions. That way you can step away from the writing process and clear your thoughts for a few moments. These breaks don’t need to be too long of course. A few minutes is good enough time to take a deep breath and get ready for the writing process again.
4. Have a good workspace
Your workspace is extremely important if you want to stay productive as a writer. This is because you will be expected to stay there for long periods of time. And if your workspace is uncomfortable, badly lit or just unpleasant, it really won’t help you stay productive. So before you even start the writing process, look for a great workspace. It can be in a café, bookstore, library, your room, study, etc. What’s important is that you are comfortable there and you can see yourself staying there for hours on end.
5. Get rid of unnecessary distractions
If you want to be as productive as possible, it is important that you stay focused. So it is imperative that you get rid of all distractions. So before your writing sessions, it is important that you rid your workspace of any potential distractions. Don’t put a TV in your workplace. You should also put your phone on silent mode and leave it outside the room. Put away any books that are not related to your work and keep your workplace clean. All in all, the less distractions within your vicinity the better.
