How To Start An Online Business From Scratch In 8 Easy Steps
If you are an aspiring entrepreneur looking for flexibility and freedom, then starting an online business is the way to go. The beauty of starting an online business is that you can do so with little or no money. In this article, I’ll walk you through eight steps that will help you start an online business from scratch.
#1. Build your audience
Begin by identifying a profitable niche, which could be fitness/weight loss, health, dating/relationships, pets, self-improvement, wealth creation, travel, beauty, fashion, and so on. Once you’ve determined your niche, it’s time to start writing content and publishing it on a blog website, YouTube channel, Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms.
By putting out content on a regular basis, you are providing value and people will begin to trust you, attracting more people to your blog or subscribing to your social media channels. Remember, don’t expect any results right away because this can take some time.
#2. Learn a new skill
Now that you’ve begun to build your audience, it’s time to learn a monetizable skill. Assume your niche is about animals. You can learn new skills relating to pet sitting, animal boarding, dog training, dog walker, grooming services, pet toy designer, pet photographer, pet transportation, animal trainer, pet finder, and the list goes on and on.
The idea behind learning this skill is that you will be able to sell it to your target audience later on. For example, you could create and sell your own information product, such as an eBook or an online course, to your target audience.
#3. Provide your services for free
I’m sure you’re asking yourself some questions by now, such as:
- Why should I offer my services for free?
- Did I not invest time and money in this service?
- How can I grow my business if I give things away for free?
However, by strategically introducing giveaways, you can expect your business to grow significantly in the future. As I previously stated, this is a strategy for developing trust and relationships. This will also help to grow your lead list, help your audience understand what you have to offer them, get valuable feedback from your audience, and upsell purchases.
Don’t worry about giving it away for free today because you’ll make a lot of money tomorrow.
#4. Make your portfolio
This will be similar to a website where your services or gigs can be found, making it simple for your audience to navigate. It should include all relevant information about you and your service, as well as a feedback form if possible. Creating a portfolio website allows you to easily share and showcase your work with your audience, increasing your visibility and presence.
#5. Sell your product or service
Now that you’ve established trust with your audience by providing them with free services or products, you can sell your service to them directly. You can accomplish this by listing your services on freelancing websites such as Upwork, Fivver, PeoplePerHour, and others, or simply directing people to your own gig website.
#6. Promotion
Do you just sit back and wait for people to contact you at random to sell your service? Certainly not! You must publicize your service by driving traffic to your portfolio website. This could take the form of SEO, backlink building, social media posting, including hashtags in your posts, using landing pages, targeting long-tail keywords, launching email marketing, and guest blogging.
#7. Using a product, you can increase your skill level
Assume you now have a large audience and a steady flow of work. It is best to expand it into a full-fledged business model where you can offer your services in a variety of packages. As with the pets niche, you can charge a high fee for a package that includes services such as dog grooming, pet transportation, pet photography, and so on.
#8. Automate your business
Now that your business has a large customer base, it’s time to expand. Can you complete all of the tasks on your own? A large workload can be inconvenient. It will be extremely difficult to handle everything on your own. This is where you will need to hire others, such as a freelancer, to do the work for you while you attend to other matters.
I hope this guide will assist you in successfully launching your online business!
