Goal-Setting Made Easy
How To Set A Result-Oriented Goal Even If You Have Failed Before In Goal Setting! (Part 1 of 5)
This is coming from someone who has tried and tested all by herself
I know, you have already tried to set goals many times and might have failed too. But I promise you this story will be a game-changer in your goal-setting journey.
Imagine you want to start a side hustle for yourself apart from your 9 to 5 job, or you want a promotion in your job in your next appraisal cycle.
But you are facing a hard time achieving that.
If I ask you what can be the reason for that?
Your possible answers would be,
‘I don’t have enough time to work after my 9–5 job’,
‘I don’t leave with enough energy to study for that extra skill that can get me a promotion at my job’,
‘I have kids to take care of after my job’,
‘I have other responsibilities after work’,
‘I start but not able to be constant till the end’.
And I agree these are all true reasons.
But to get something great for yourself, you need to go the extra mile.
You can’t compromise your dreams just for these reasons. You have to fight and grab what you deserve. And let me tell you, it is possible for you.
You have to adjust your after-work hour timings to fit your goal in it.
Let’s decide to spare 30 minutes on goal every day. (Later on, you can gradually increase that time to 1 hour). These 30 minutes can be before everyone around wakes up or after they go to sleep.
Now the question is, how will you be able to spare those 30 minutes?
Find out how your time is being spent in a day.
- Are you indulging in unnecessary scrolling on your phone?
- Are you wasting time unnecessarily chit-chatting at the office?
Listen, you have to control this to achieve something big for yourself. That is your dream. Don’t compromise on it.
To work on your mobile scrolling habit, keep your mobile internet off for a few days. When you need to check messages or apps, at that time intentionally switch the internet ON. This way when you reach your phone unnecessarily between tasks, you can catch yourself and save time.
Purposely pay attention when you stop your work and indulge in gossip. Save those time pockets to work on something concrete or at least rejuvenate yourself by taking a small walk, or grabbing a tea. This way you won’t carried away by gossip and will save yourself time and energy.
Have awareness of your time-spending habit, and I give you a guarantee that you will easily able to manage 1 hour in a day. That you can utilize for your goal.
Now that you have 1 hour extra, let’s start the process of goal setting.
- Take a piece of paper and write down things you want to achieve. Write down all your goals/ambitions on paper.
- Prioritize them according to what you want to achieve first.
- Choose the one to start with having the highest priority. And write it down (as a title) on a new piece of paper.
Here, in the goal-setting process writing is important. When you write, you are forced to think exactly what you want. And when you write things down it becomes clear. You no longer chasing your imagination, but the concrete thing.
That is it for this week. These are your two tasks as part 1 of goal setting. Work on it till next week story part 2 comes your way.
