How to Ride a Bike in the Snow❄️

My First Mountain Bike Snow Ride!

One of my bucket list things to do was ride my mountain bike (MTB) in deep snow. Well, we got a pretty big snow storm last few weeks ago and I took out my Trek Marlin 8 MTB and decided to do what I have been wanting to do forever.

People usually sled, build snow forts, and make snow angels. Well, I did all that when I was a kid. But, all my years I never rode a bike in deep snow. So, instead of being normal, I decided to do something crazy.

I took my Marlin 8 outside and started to pedal to my surprise it was hard to even get started. I then decided to try again while sitting because usually I let the bike take off and then I swing my legs and get on the bike a neat trick my father taught me. But with so much snow that was hard to do so I thought sitting down would do the trick.

After a few minutes of almost falling over. I decided to take a short break and reflect on my failures. I was getting pretty depressed thinking I was this hotshot bike rider in my mind but my skills are no good in snow. Then it hit me! Maybe if I pedal fast and furious it might work. So, I hopped on the bike and pedaled as fast and as hard as I could.

Little did I know what came next… my bike flung forward and shot off into the snow I was pedaling for dear life as I was riding on the snow. The feeling is hard to describe. It is almost like you are floating on top of the snow and the feeling of slipping and sliding on the snow brought me great joy beyond my mind.

I probably got a little too excited because going around my backyard was more work than I thought it would be. I had to stop and restart the pedaling process over again a couple of times and man each time you stop and then try to start was pretty taxing. But in the end, I had so much fun in the snow which was surprising.

It was truly an amazing feeling riding on the snow the vertigo when you turn and also the anti-gravity feeling was truly amazing.

So, it isn’t too late or too old to have fun in the snow. Things change and we grow up, but even if we are getting older let's still have some crazy fun when we can. Do something exciting once in a while and you will have the fun of your life. But warning please do not do something too crazy you can hurt yourself pretty badly. That would be awful so please be safe!
