How To Read The Right Way

Reading can be useless…

Today we’ll be talking about probably the most potent tool you got in your life. Reading will make you rich, poor, healthy, fit, sexy, attractive, or ugly. Even reading this article will change a (big or small) part of your life; the only tool as powerful as this is listening.

We have to understand how many things reading can change in us. For my example, I read to find out how I can become a better writer, market myself, keep a healthy diet and stay fit, or travel safely in 2021.

All of this sounds fascinating, but reading can be useless at the same time. I used to believe in the power of subconsciousness. I thought that if you read just the outline without focusing too much on it, your brain will somehow remember the important stuff — but that’s not true. Focus on what’s in front of you if you want to memorize it; so, how to read?

Here are a few quick tips on improving your reading:

First, what is your goal?

You just saw an eye-catching headline, and you couldn’t resist but to click it. This is the time when you should define your goal — what results are you expecting when you finish this article? Take a quick look at the outline, and see if the whole part is helpful for you.

Mention that goal in your mind.

Think about your reading

Don’t just read like a brain-dead zombie, but actually think about it. Think even about the fact that you’re reading this sentence right now. How is this useful to you? Keep answering your own questions. That’s how you make your brain work and memorize the important stuff.

Visualize

When you come across a difficult part, try visualizing it. Create a mental image and focus on it. Your imagination has to keep working. This particular step will also help you build new thoughts, and perhaps you’ll find your own solutions.

Take notes for yourself.

I’m glad that you memorized the last step, but have you noted it? Everything you find helpful should be pointed out on a piece of paper. Please, don’t just type it in your notepad — it is proven that handwriting activates way more areas of your brain than… Again, if you don’t focus on it, your efforts will be gone to none.

Implement

The last thing you have to do to make your reading useful, is to implement. Take action and implement the new ideas. That’s when reading changes your life.

Next time you read something, keep in mind — focus on learning and memorizing the most essential ideas you see. Come out of theory and bring it to reality!
