BOOKS AND MARKETING
How To Properly Self-Market Your Book
#3: Collab with other authors
I published my second book not long ago and have been self-marketing like a chicken on the loose every day. It’s been working. I have developed strategic plans to make my book get out there by being creative and open.
Have you got a book out there and don’t know what to do to market it? Then this article will help you on how to properly self-market your book.
Be creative
“The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul.” — Dieter F. Uchtdorf
It’s true — we all have a creative spark ready to be lit up even in the dullest of days. Although I have been suffering from depression and staying in a mental clinic when publishing this book, it has helped me get my mojo back and find purpose again. There are days when I want to stay in bed and do nothing because depression is pulling me down like a magnet to the floor, but I refuse.
Even on the days when I’ve been in bed, I’ve tried to be creative and develop ways to market my book. One creative way is by asking people who have the paperback version take a selfie with the book and tag me. This way, I share their selfies on my feed as well as my publishers. It has become a great marketing tool, and I have so many happy faces with my book, which makes me delighted.
Here is one of my friend’s dogs even getting in on the action!:

Asides from being creative, be dedicated.
This is your book — nobody else is going to do the marketing for you, so:
Post everyday
You may think you are annoying people, but who cares? People who follow you know that you have published a book so understand that you have to post every day to get it out there. They will instead support you with likes and comments and be there for you! Don’t care about what other people think as this might stop you in your track, but be so confident and courageous that every day you end up posting something on your social media for at least a month…
Lastly, how to properly self-market your book means to:
Collab with other authors
I didn’t get this to begin with, but now I totally understand. When you are a writer and author, you need to have a big circle of friends, supporters, authors to get you more recognised. After getting reviews on Instagram, some authors ended up reaching out to me saying they like the sound of my book, and they would want to review it too.
So we ended up doing a review for review. I mean, as an author, you must support other authors too to get by! Collaborating with authors also meant doing lives on Instagram. One author always goes live with fellow authors every day, and I went on her live one day. It was a great experience and showed me that life on Instagram is a bold way to self-market your book!
So there you have it — collab with other authors, be creative, and remember to post daily if you want to successfully self-market your book!
