Summary

The article discusses the concept of having a direct connection with God through spirituality, emphasizing that this connection is accessible to everyone, regardless of prior training, and manifests through intuitive feelings and actions aligned with spiritual law.

Abstract

The text delves into the idea that individuals can communicate directly with God, a concept the author has explored for over 40 years. It suggests that God's communication is not verbal but rather felt through instincts, gut feelings, and a sense of right or wrong. The author, drawing from personal experience and spiritual teachings, including those from AA, encourages readers to trust these non-verbal cues as a form of divine guidance. The article posits that we are all part of God, like beads of water in the ocean, and that by acknowledging and using our innate spirituality, we can navigate life's decisions with humility and confidence. The author also shares their journey of spiritual awakening through Alcoholics Anonymous, which provided a foundation for understanding and practicing spiritual principles in daily life.

How To Obtain and Use This Direct Pipeline To God

Whether or not you have any prior training.

Can you talk directly to God? Is it possible? Isn’t he “Up there in the sky in heaven, somewhere?” What’s even more baffling to me is can God talk directly to you?

I have studied spirituality for over 40 years, now, and have been guilty enough of believing that I have had a direct pipeline to God.

Oh, I was saying the right things. Even doing many of the right things. Everything was going so well that I may have even believed that I had the inside track to God.

In fact, I really did have some of the inside track, as we all do just by being spiritual beings in human form. I just didn’t know it. Or how to use it. But my ego soon jumped in with both feet saying that I was in control of all around me because of my inside track to God.

Bill W. said in As Bill Sees It: “The minute I figure I have got a perfectly clear pipeline to God, I have become egotistical enough to get into real trouble. Nobody can cause more needless grief than a power-driver who thinks he has got it straight from God.”

God is not a human-shaped figure “up there” in heaven ruling the universe with an iron fist. We are individualized expressions of God and one with all that exists. We also have free will.

Also, we are a part of God just as a bead of water is a part of the ocean. Or like a grain of sand is a part of the desert. We are living this brief piece of eternity while experiencing the human condition just like all of the rest of the beings in the world.

Lions are living their brief piece of eternity in the form of the lion. Earthworms are living their brief piece of eternity in the form of a worm. A blade of grass and a tree are living their brief piece of eternity in the forms we see sprouting up from the earth.

We are all spiritual beings. Living in a spiritual universe. That is governed by spiritual law. So, if I pay attention to the various methods God uses to communicate with me, I am on the right track.

Since God does not communicate with us verbally, these communications from God could be one or more of the following: instincts, gut feelings, vibes, or sudden recalls.

When we act accordingly after one of these reminders, we know we are doing the right thing. So, if it FEELS right it IS right. This is exactly how we know if something is right or not.

If we have any apprehensions at all, we should reconsider. Our apprehensions are warnings from our Higher Power. Warnings should cause us to reconsider what to do. If it FEELS wrong, it most likely IS wrong!

How do we know just what and when to do something? This is where the shortened version of the AA 3rd Step comes into play. When arriving at one of life’s many crossroads, simply and humbly say “God, help me,” and get out of His way and let Him. Then move on.

Then, if what you choose to do feels right, it IS right. If there is any apprehension, pause and reconsider. Remember, God does not communicate with anyone verbally. You will FEEL right and wrong.

I had no religious training or experiences when I was new to AA. AA opened up my eyes and heart to spirituality. I was beginning from the very start and felt as mentally thirsty for this new knowledge as I could ever be.

I began to believe in my native spirituality quickly because I was learning from my heart and not my head. When I learn with my head, as when cramming for an exam in school, I quickly forget my new knowledge when the test is over.

When I learn with my heart, I take this spiritual knowledge and saturate my mental and emotional sponge quickly and completely. I know when it is true and working for me because I FEEL it working.

This is how I learned without any prior knowledge. I FELT God working in me. He works through me when I simply work my program 24/7/365. How do I work my program? I just try to do the next right thing. Simple as that. Then watch the rewards come flooding in!

Thank you, God!
