Anyone can look great at any age! In this pic I had just turned 66yrs old a few days ago.
Love your body as it's the most amazing thing we own!
Gym time can be a sanctuary where your mind can de-stress and relax. This pic was taken 3 months ago.

How To Make Yourself Healthier

As we age we all want to have that healthy and energetic feel that we had in our 20s and 30s. But as we start reaching our 40s we start to notice our energy levels dwindle down to zilch feeling tired all the time. It’s as if we’ve lost our mojo.

Most of it is due to being overwhelmed with working many hours with a lack of exercise and living a poor lifestyle. All this can bring on stress which just elevates cortisol levels. Whatever the case may be, we all want to slow down the aging process by the time we’re 40 on up, we don’t want to look and feel like we’re much older than what we really are!

In order to make yourself look younger and have more energy as you age, it’s just a matter of taking care of yourself. And what I mean by that is you need to focus on improving your health by making healthier choices.

First place I’d start is eliminating all junk foods from your cupboards, cabinets and refrigerator and replacing it with healthier food choices.

Also try to limit your consumption of alcohol, liquor and carbonated beverages like soft drinks. If drinking beer try to stay with lite beers. As for Alcoholic beverages I would recommend Scotch, Whiskey, Bourbon, etc. either straight up as a shot or mixed with seltzer water as calories will be low, but never use soft drinks or fruit juices if you’re on a weight-loss program as it will derail all your efforts at the gym.

Carbonated beverages like soft drinks can hinder your weight loss progress by drinking too many of these throughout the day. These are just nothing but empty calories. Try to switch to low sugar or avoid them all completely.

You’d be surprised how many ppl can down these soft drinks as if it were plain water! They don’t do anything for you, but just pack on the pounds especially in the stomach is why most ppl tend to have a “pot belly” as it’s commonly known.

These drinks contain an excessive amount of sugars that get converted to fat and more than likely will be stored in the abdomen.

Not only that but the worse part, people develop diabetes from an overconsumption of sugar as sugar is found everywhere in processed foods that come in packages.

Sugar found in fruits are okay to eat as fruits provide fiber which is needed for roughage plus fruits give you an abundance of energy! Try to stay away from processed fruit juices as it’s merely all fructose and very little juice from fruit.

ALWAYS SHOP ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE STORE’S PERIMETER AS THAT IS WHERE YOU’LL FIND ALL THE HEALTHY FOODS THAT YOU NEED TO EAT FOR OPTIMUM HEALTH.

So to live a healthy life, avoid consuming too much processed sugar as sugar is poison. Sugar ages you faster and creates all sorts of debilitating illnesses.

Just switching to healthier meals, you’ll begin to notice you’ll have more energy as clean food is fuel for the energy you need to be able to function all day without feeling winded right after lunch.

Eating an unhealthy meal for lunch will do that to you. It’ll cause you to feel sluggish and fatigued immediately afterwards.

You’ll also probably experience a feeling of brain fog returning back to work, especially eating a very heavy lunch full of grease which can cause heartburn and indigestion. No one wants to feel miserable especially while at work.

In addition to eating healthier, if you’re not already in some type of workout program I would suggest it’s best to start somewhere.

There are free places including low fees where you can start an exercise regimen. To name just a couple are recreational parks where you can take your daily walks and get your recommended 10,000 steps daily. Another one the city provides for a small yearly fee are recreational centers governed by the city and you get to work out all year-round doing Zumba classes in addition to using their strength training machines.

If it’s been a long time since you last worked out, one of the most beneficial exercise you can do is to start from the very beginning like in a very moderate workout program. This can be done anywhere just as long as you get your workout done whether at the gym or at home. It would do you a world of good.

Strength training exercises not only builds muscle, but it also increases your metabolism as the more muscles you have, the more calories you burn which is a good thing as you’ll also be metabolizing bodyfat!

Good rule of thumb if you’re a beginner is to use a weight you’re comfortable with and not lift too heavy if it’s your first time. With consistency and maintaining with the program, you’ll start to see gains and will want to increase the amount of weight you’re lifting after a period of time.

You’ll definitely know when you have to increase weights as the weight you’ve been lifting for quite some time becomes way too easy.

You’ll start to see muscles and definition sprouting all over your body that you never knew it could possibly happen when you proudly admire yourself in the mirror! You’ll smile when you see yourself. You will be so proud of your accomplishments that you’ll want to keep on going till you finally reach your goals.

Another type of exercise which includes moderate to intense cardio combined with strength training or as we call High Intensity Interval Training or HIIT for short can be very beneficial for metabolizing a great amount of bodyfat in only a 30 minute workout. These can also be referred to as Bootcamp classes. They are actually fun to do as well as teach which I love teaching these types of classes!

At the end of the workout, it leaves you drenched from head to toes! It leaves you feeling exhilarated with a greater sense of accomplishment leaving you wanting more, as you have a powerful surge of energy.

I know I do as I also love participating in these type of classes as well!

This type of workout can be extremely intense burning an astronomical amount of calories during the workout and the EPOC (Excess Post-Excercise Oxygen Consumption) effect continues long after the workout is over for the next 24 to 36 hrs!

And when daily Circuit Training workouts or Bootcamp classes are combined with a relatively healthy eating program, the results of fatloss are astounding!

You will see greater results in a shorter amount of time when exercise and nutrition are combined. As Jack LaLanne would say “Exercise is King…Nutrition is Queen…Put them together and you’ve got a Kingdom!”

Believe me Exercise and Nutrition are the “key” to the “magical” Fountain of Youth.

Not everyone is able to attain it as most quit halfway through their program frustrated that it’s taking too long as they’ve come to a plateau just when they’ve almost reached their goals, and their weightloss progress begins to stall. This is the moment when they need to push so much harder than ever before in order to be successful and realize their hopes and dreams!

Let me tell you, anyone can do anything they want as long as they have the right mindset. The word “Can’t” should never be in your vocabulary as you are capable of anything you put your mind to.

Always think positive and know that you “Can” do whatever it is you want to accomplish.

You are the master of your destiny! Only you can control how you want to live your life. No one else can do it for you.

As we get older, we all want to age gracefully and still be physically active in our “Golden Years.”

Being physically active combined with nutrition and avoiding stress as much as possible is what keeps us young and healthy as well as having a sharp mind.

It all depends on our mindset and what we are all capable of. You’ll be surprised to see how strong a person is when tested both mentally and physically.

Anyone can overcome any challenges they may be facing. That’s how one becomes a champion by being a warrior.

I am living proof at 66 that anyone at any age can look and feel younger no matter your age as long as you have the willpower and the motivation to do something about your health.

It has always been known that HEALTH IS WEALTH!!!

And that is so true! As long as you make the decision to commit to a healthier lifestyle you will start to see the dramatic transformation occurring within yourself. Changes are gradual, but in time, you will start noticing a dramatic physical change happening all over.

You will have more energy and will be able to keep up with your children as well as be more productive at work.

Believe me you’ll have more confidence and might even enjoy your workouts at the gym! Once you start admiring those gains in muscle, I’m pretty sure you’re going to love going to the gym every single day like me! lol

So what have you got to lose, but only the pounds and inches just simply melting away!

Take a leap of Faith and do something your body will thank you for as our body is a vessel that will carry us through life!
