How To Make $1000+ With zkSync Airdrop - Complete & Updated Guide For April 2023
The average Arbitrum airdrop recipient made $2300, but other, potentially bigger, airdrops are on their way.
The Layer 2 space - technologies aiming to improve the Ethereum network - is currently very competitive.
And what better way to attract users and build a loyal community than by giving them free money?
In this guide, we’ll look at exactly how you can qualify for one of the most anticipated future airdrops and why I think it’s worth it.
What is zkSync?
zkSync is a Layer 2 solution that uses Zero-Knowledge (ZK) rollups to speed up transitions and lower gas fees on the Ethereum blockchain.
ZK-rollups bundle transactions into batches and execute them off-chain. They store only the minimum amount of data on-chain, making the process faster and cheaper.
With the Ethereum blockchain used for a growing number of applications, finding solutions for its inherent scaling issues is of absolute necessity. ZK-rollups are regarded as one of the most promising technologies ready to tackle this problem.
Is zkSync launching a token?
Matter Labs, the team behind zkSync, has “no plans to launch a token for now” according to its CEO Alex Gluchowski.
He says that the team is focused on “further development of the protocol,” and that “a token only comes into play with decentralizing the network, and that is still far on the horizon.”
He adds that after “a year or more, the network will be decentralized”.
Arbitrum followed a similar roadmap. They focused on the development and attracting users, and only launched a token when there was sufficient hype around their product.
From this, we can conclude that the ZKS token is coming in about a year.
Why farm the zkSync airdrop?
If we’re confident that zkSync will eventually drop tokens to its users, there are 2 good reasons why this is an airdrop worth farming:
First, zkSync has raised one of the largest amounts of capital in the history of crypto. You can verify this on Cryptorank. The team has raised $458 million from over a dozen different investors.
More capital means a bigger airdrop. Arbitrum, for example, raised $123 million and its airdrop was one of the biggest so far.
The second reason is that you’re still early. If we believe Gluchowski, the ZKS token won’t see the day for another year. This means you have plenty of time to carry out the required tasks, as being early is a very important criteria when airdrop hunting.
Tasks to qualify for the airdrop
zkSync currently consists of two networks: The original zkSync Lite network and the brand new zkSync Era mainnet.
(Interacting with zkSync Era is likely going to weigh a lot more in the token allocation than using zkSync Lite. Don’t spend more than 10–20% of time and volume on zkSync Lite.)
What should you do to potentially qualify for the airdrop?
1. Farm on zkSync Era
- Send ETH to zkSync Era using the official bridge on bridge.zksync.io
- Bridge funds to zkSync Era using Orbiter Finance
- Swap assets and provide liquidity in pools on Mute.io and Syncswap
(BONUS TIP: Syncswap has a valuation of over $23 million but doesn’t have a token yet. By using it, you can potentially qualify for the zkSync and the Syncswap airdrop at the same time.)
- Mint NFTs on zkSync Era network on Mint Square
2. Farm on zkSync Lite:
- Send ETH to zkSync Lite using the official bridge on lite.zksync.io
- Bridge funds to zkSync Lite using Orbiter Finance and ZigZag
- Trade on ZigZag exchange
- Mint NFTs on zkSync Lite:
-> Use an app like Pinata or NFT storage to create your NFTs
-> Copy the CID number of the created NFT
-> Go to zkSync Lite and connect your wallet
-> Mint an NFT by inserting the CID in the Content Address field
3. Farm with other tasks
- Register a domain on zkSync Name Service
- Complete zkSync-related tasks on Crew3
- Donate to your favorite projects on GitCoin using the zkSync network
Tips to maximize your chances
Interact with zkSync smart contracts regularly over an extensive period.
Most people will do a couple of transactions and then they’ll forget the whole thing. What counts the most with airdrops is showing genuine interest in the protocol by using it consistently.
Get organized. You don’t have to perform transactions every day. But if you don’t carve out a specific time of the week to farm the airdrop, you will likely forget.
Write down tasks you need to perform in apps like Trello and use reminders on your phone to make sure you’re consistent in your work.
The biggest expense you’ll encounter when airdrop farming is gas fees and slippage.
Try different times of the day to find periods when fees are lower. If they’re too high on zkSync Era, use zkSync Lite instead.
When swapping, click on the gear icon and set your slippage tolerance to 0.5% or lower.
If possible, conduct larger transactions. What counts in the end is the overall volume of your interactions.
For example, if you swap $1000 worth of ETH into USDC and then back to ETH, the only thing you’ll pay are gas fees, and they don’t depend on the size of the transaction. So, if you can, it’s worth bridging, swapping, and depositing bigger amounts.
Bottom Line
Although at the end of the day, nothing guarantees you an airdrop, the risk-reward ratio is absolutely in your favor.
From my perspective, the amount of work needed, and the capital spent on gas fees are low enough to make such a big airdrop as zkSync worth pursuing.
Finally, keep in mind that the zkSync protocol is constantly evolving. When new applications are added to the network, the guidelines for airdrop farming will slightly change.
