This How To Lose 6 Kilos — Or 10 Pounds- In One Month

Or 3 Reasons Why Now Is The Time For Keto

One thing that’s guaranteed in life is that diets come with lovers and haters.

For every eating plan, there is someone who will tell you it’s the worst possible thing you can do.

No landscape is as divided as the arena of what you should and shouldn’t eat.

The fact is all diets work on one fundamental principle;

More calories out — Fewer calories in

I have tried a bunch of things including fasting, 16/8 and ‘The Warrior Diet’. I have even been vegetarian for a while. I am not a nutritionist but I have experimented and some things are more effective than others.

But there’s one thing that works better than anything else, by a mile and that’s the Keto diet.

Last month I was 98 kilos, which is about 8 kilos over my ideal. I’m a fit guy. I could run 10 miles without a warm-up. I can hit 100 burpees in 9 minutes at a push, but outside of my training life is hard.

Uncertainty and loneliness have led me to take comfort in food. Especially sugar and white carbs.

If you’ve seen the movie Aliens, there’s a great line by Newt, the little girl they find in the dumpster, she’s famous for saying;

“They come mostly at night — mostly”

Just like my food cravings, perfectly aligned with my anxiety.

So there I was, training a lot but overeating and not liking what I saw. Fat on my flank, a bit of a double chin and no definition in my stomach.

It was time to dust off my Keto file and promise myself a month. A whole four weeks of:

  • No sugar, no grains, no fruits except berries and keeping carbs under 60 grams (roughly).
  • Eating lots of meat, fat, nuts, seeds, full-fat yoghurt and berries.
  • Dealing with the difficulties of meals out and cravings.

Basically getting myself into Ketosis as quickly as possible and staying there as long as I can whilst the fat melts off.

This works quickly and effectively.

Here is what happens and what I get when I do it. Remember everyone is different so these results aren't guaranteed.

  1. Huge weight loss. The first week was 3 kilos, mostly water as my sodium levels adjusted but it is quick and I feel less bloated. The next weeks are a steady 1 to 1.5 kilos a week, sightly plateauing at the end of the month.
  2. I feel like shit from day 4–7 and good after. I don’t get Keto flu I get Keto Bi-Polar. Food is used as emotional support for many things I find difficult. Pizza, Pasta all satisfy my inner child and keep him happy. When I take this away I feel for a few days like I am on the verge of tears. It’s a weird and humbling experience. It can also turn into elation. It ends in line with the cravings for bread and cake. When they go, and they always go, it is plain steady sailing.
  3. I feel lighter, my sleep is better and I wake up without brain fog. I can write my medium posts in the morning and don’t need an hour for my brain to wake up, this is the best bit. It feels like sugar and bread are poison and when I stop I get my life back. This might sound like bullshit but you need to live this to experience it. If you know you know. Bread bloats me and it takes days to flatten out. I won’t ever give it up but my body does not like it.

Afterthoughts

There are a whole bunch of other reasons too. The berries I eat taste better, sweeter. Yoghurt, just plain yoghurt tastes delicious. Your taste buds will thank you and your body will feel more responsive and awake.

I am not advocating Keto as a lifestyle.

For me, it is a tool that recalibrates my system and gets me back to myself again.

Bad habits will always creep in but this month is a reset.

If you are considering it, try it out. You may even take it further. It is by far the quickest way to lose weight and regain your energy levels. Whilst it may not be for everyone, it warrants a try. I will certainly bring it back in as and when I need to as a fail-safe method to get back on track.
