How To Live In Abundance

Joyful Lessons From Moss

Photo by Markus Spiske on Unsplash

There is an ancient conversation going on between mosses and rocks, poetry to be sure. About light and shadow and the drift of continents. This is what has been called the “dialect of moss on stone — an interface of immensity and minuteness, of past and present, softness and hardness, stillness and vibrancy, yin and yan.” ― Robin Wall Kimmerer, Gathering Moss: A Natural and Cultural History of Mosses

I was not sure what to write about today when I was called to look out the window. It was there that I saw little bright spots of green. Moss is something that I love. It softly covers our paving stones, rocks, and spaces between the grass.

Moss is a living being that exemplifies growth, resilience, and abundance.

I have always loved moss. It brings bright color to the darkest of days. I feel so lucky to live in Oregon where it is very damp most of the year so that mosses can thrive. I freely allow moss to grow wherever it chooses in my garden. On my 100-day journey exploring abundance, moss is a perfect example of overflow.

What can we learn from moss?

In this article, I share with you three things we can learn from moss to apply to our lives.

Moss grows in a variety of places and conditions:

Since moss can grow in several climates, so can we grow personally each day. Our outward conditions and circumstances may not be ideal every day, but we can persevere.

We can grow abundantly, just like moss.

Our inner strength, desire, and beliefs that we cast out into the world that causes us to grow.

Mosses cast out spores into the air, just as we allow our dreams to grow from our minds. The more we focus on and nurture those dreams, the more they will spread into every corner of our lives.

We can be abundant in every way.

Moss is abundant and grows all over the world:

We can thrive anywhere we choose to grow. Just like there are varieties of moss in all corners of the world, we can come together in many ways as one.

The more we collaborate and interconnect with one another, the more we will thrive. Growing your network of friends worldwide brings abundance to you.

As you continue to grow your circle and cast your net wide, you will thrive from what you will learn from others.

Every variety of moss has a special place in this world, and so do you.

Dried Moss can be brought back to life:

There are some days where we feel “dried up.” It may feel as if we have run out of energy or ideas.

However, there is always a way to refresh yourself.

Just looking out the window today brought a spark of creativity back to me. You never know what your heart will call you to do.

Just like moss can be brought back to life, so can your ideas and creativity. There will always be something for you to share that is uniquely yours.

My prayer and intention for you today is to learn from the moss. Know that you can thrive in any condition. You have creativity still in you.

Day #76: How will you start thriving today in any condition?

I am tagging some amazing fellow writers on this journey. They joined me on my 100-day spiritual journey, and it is an honor to have them here on this journey.
