Abstract

The article "How to Live an Absolutely Satisfying Life by Loving Jesus" by Richard, shared on the undefined website, is a personal reflection on the author's journey as a Christian. Since accepting Jesus at the age of ten, Richard has found satisfaction in his faith, despite acknowledging his own imperfections and life's challenges. He underscores the importance of keeping one's faith uncomplicated, rooted in the assurance of God's grace through Jesus Christ, as articulated in the hymn "The Solid Rock." The song, written by Pastor Edward Mote, encapsulates the essence of standing firm in faith, as Jesus' sacrifice is the sole foundation for salvation, not good works or secret knowledge. Richard encourages readers to build their spiritual lives on the teachings of Jesus, as recorded in Matthew 7:24

I’ve been a Christian since my mother asked me to kneel on the kitchen floor at her chair. She questioned me, “Richard, do you want Jesus to come into your heart and save you from your sins?” She led me in a prayer to invite the Savior into my life. I was ten then. Now at seventy-eight, I’m so glad I answered my mother’s question with a yes.

I’ve lived a satisfying life as a Christian all these sixty-eight years. Because of my kitchen “come to Jesus” experience. That doesn’t mean I’ve been without faults. I’ve sinned and had disappointing times during those years. I’m like you, far from perfect.

So, what do I mean when I write that we can live a satisfying life? And how do we live satisfied?

Keep salvation simple. That’s why this one hymn has so much meaning for us today.

“On Christ the solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.” (“The Solid Rock,” in the Public Domain)

Edward Mote wrote “The Solid Rock (My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less)” in 1834. I encourage you to read the brief history of the song here.

Pastor Mote’s song conceptualizes our identity in Christ. Even though we pile up all our good works, none opens the door to God’s grace. Jesus is the way, the only way into God’s presence. When I acknowledged Jesus as my Savior, the door swung wide open into God’s amazing grace at my mother’s knee.

“Consider how much you owe to His forgiving grace, that after ten thousand affronts he loves you as infinitely as ever.” — A.W. Tozer

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the Good News. It is good because nothing needs to be added to it since Jesus paid it all on the cross. Still, some claim they have secret knowledge on joining or continuing in God’s kingdom. Don’t fall into believing those who place “add ons” to God’s redeeming grace.

The inspiration for Pastor Mote’s writing the song came from Matthew chapter seven.

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the Rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the Rock.

“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, and it fell. And great was its fall.” (Matthew 7:24–27, NKJV)

We want to be wise people who know and accept God’s word. Make sure you are building your faith on the Rock. Yes, there will be those proclaiming new rains and floods of knowledge only known to a few. But, I built my hope on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.

Brother Mote adds:

“I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.” (“The Solid Rock,” in the Public Domain)

This scripture seals the identity we have in Christ deep in our hearts.

“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified. (Galatians 2:16, NKJV)

So, we know the Bible is the truth that leads us in our daily walk with Christ. As we study the Holy Scriptures, we learn how to walk out our Christian faith. There still remains much to learn.

But this one thing I know, I’m standing on the Rock of my salvation. All else is sinking sand.

“Make Jesus Christ your theme! I have seen preachers espouse causes and champion movements, and when the cause died and the movement collapsed, the preacher vanished too. But the man who glories in Christ never grows stale.” — Vance Havner

I cherish the moment at my mother’s knee so long ago. It’s a beautiful moment in my past. The truth is, Jesus has never left me, nor He has never forsaken me. He has promised to be with me to the end (Hebrews 13:5).

So, how do we live an absolutely satisfying life?

By keeping Jesus the main focus in our lives.

My hope for you is, you will stand on the Rock, Jesus Christ.

Richard
