How to Let Another Crisis Go to Waste Again
History Has Returned, To Repeat

A new crisis is upon us;
Seducing our innocence,
Deluding our caution,
Lowering our guard.
The pandemic seems fading into the distance
Reminding that the worst of covid19 has passed,
Never to return?
Flowing away like waters on the river of time,
Carrying bubbles of memories into the yonder,
Bursting along the way into nothingness,
As washing away pain, grief, and despair
From the deaths, sickness, fears, and loss it caused,
Save for joyful memories of loved ones gone
And loving moments of joy from the time past.
Many have wasted the last crisis
As the new crisis looms,
More covid19 variants have bloomed,
Unpromising vaccines blossomed in pursuit.
Social distancing continues to separate us,
Elbow bumping is now the norm
Replacing the firm handshakes.
We long the return to freedom, safety, and health
Without travel restrictions, tests and more tests,
With contact tracing and unending vaxx booster shots;
Back to school beckoned but has stalled,
Real learning has been restrained;
Work-from-Home is not homework;
Remote working separated by distance,
Many get thrice the work on the same or lesser pay,
For some, no vaxx also means lost jobs
And jobs lost will not return.
The new crisis has arrived, as ominous as before;
Bearing no gifts, only promises of lesser pain
With visions and illusions of hope;
Less pain, same grief, and despair
From some deaths, same sickness, fears, and loss;
Changes nothing.
In the new crisis to be wasted again,
Life continues abnormally as the new normal,
Business-as-usual is now unusual.
Beware the normal return of usual toxic friends.
The unfolding reality continues to suck;
“Everything is backward. Everything is upside down. Doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, universities destroy knowledge, governments destroy freedom, the major media destroy information, and religion destroys spirituality.” [Michael Ellner]
The past has a way of returning,
Remember the lessons of yore
Or be doomed to repeat them here.
Expect the future present to be as good as the past,
Only more of the same better reprise.
Did you waste the last crisis?
Did you do 3 things you long for?
Did you change 2 habits you dislike?
And learn 1 more useless skill?
Did you help others with a little more kindness?
Did you sow the seeds of hope for those in despair?
Did you comfort the sick, suffering, and in mourning?
Did you spend more time with loved ones, families, and friends?
Did the beam of light from your hearts stay strong and true?
Are you steady and steadfast as the lighthouse for others
On the sea of hope into eternity yonder?
The crisis has returned here once more
Where it all began;
Waste not the crisis this time.
