Being self employed is a bit of a roller roaster in the emotions department. The highs are high and the lows can get a person down. Learning how to keep a positive entrepreneur mindset is is key for long-term success.

I have been in network marketing for 5 years and was self-employed for a few years before that. I know firsthand how important self development and having a positive mindset is.

When I first started in network marketing, I thought personal development was silly and didn’t do any. But I figured out when you are giving and developing others all day, you HAVE to refill your positivity cup! Here are 8 of my top tips to Keep A Positive Entrepreneur Mindset.

Choose The Words You Tell Yourself Wisely

Our emotions impact the way we speak, but the reverse is also true. The words we choose to use affects our mindset. This is true for both the conversations we have with others and our internal monologues.

Think about the way you speak about your business. “This economy is killing my business”. This is a very defeatist mindset and can kill your business. If you replace that statement with, “This economy is challenging and we need to work hard to get through it.” This is a productive and positive statement. I hope you see how the way you speak can break life or death into your mindset.

Be your own biggest fan! Start speaking life and affirmation into yourself and your business.

Choose Who You Take Advice From

You are in complete control of who you let influence your thoughts. Allow only positive voices into your day. Podcasts, social media, motivational reading and advice from friends and family.

Seeking outside inspiration is key right now! When the urge to give up or slow down, I become stressed and overwhelmed. That’s when I am very intentional with my daily business tasks and I listen to uplifting music or speakers.

Surround yourself with leaders in your industry the give you power to move forward. Be mindful that those positive voices are also transparent and honest. There needs to be a clear vision of reality and an understanding of what is realistic.

Limit Your Intake of the News and Media

I used to wake up every morning and watch the news for about an hour. Then I started to feel anxious because of the negativity I was seeing. When you feed your mind negative messages, it’s very difficult to find positivity.

Putting a limit on the intake of news can help you focus more time and energy on other positive activities. It’s good to know what’s going on, but sometimes it’s good for your mind and soul to shut off the TV.

The way you start your morning sets the tone for the day. Instead of listening to the news switch it up and listen to an audio book. Or something uplifting to help you become a better version of yourself.

TIP: Whatever you watch or listen to, remind yourself there are positive things happening in the world.

Focus On What You Can Control

Because many entrepreneurs struggle with control or a lack of control is a huge topic. There’s not a lot in our world that we can control right now, which can be very stressful. We can’t control when things will return to normal. But we can control our actions and what we focus our energy on.

Your relationship with your clients might have changed, but keep those relationships strong. Is there an email you can send? Action trumps fear every single time. So what action steps can you take each day?

Prove Your Doubts Wrong

Take all your doubts and change them into challenges. If you’re worried about how much time you’re going to waste today, make it your mission to be productive. If you think your customers don’t want to hear from you, set a goal to message them asking how they are doing?

I am a competitive personality type (A red Personality). I thrive off setting goals and challenges for myself. When I pick a reward or task, and a deadline I put all my doubts aside and focus on that which will propel my business.

Comparison Is A Killer

Comparing yourself and your business journey to others is a huge mindset killer. This is where taking short breaks from social media might be necessary for you. Social media features highlights of people’s lives and not their struggles, it’s easy to fall into comparison. Your goal needs to be growth, and the only person you need to compete with is yourself.

Building your business while looking over your shoulder will have you tripping over your own two feet.

Believe in Your Success

Belief in your ability to succeed is how to keep a positive entrepreneur mindset. Believe in the abilities and skills that you have and that you will succeed.

A lack of belief will set yourself up for failure. When you go into a situation with the internal conversation being you can’t succeed, the result is failure.

Commit to telling yourself that you can and will succeed. Even if you have to make a couple tries, keep going until you get the job done. You need to tell yourself you will succeed at whatever you put your mind to. If you don’t believe in yourself, no one will!

How To Keep A Positive Entrepreneur Mindset — Dream

A great way to begin having a positive mindset is to dream. What do you desire in life? What do you want the future to look like? Where do you see yourself in 5, 10, or 15 years?

Allow yourself to dream big, to have huge goals, and then make a road map toward reaching those dreams/goals. When you accomplish the small goals, you become more positive about your abilities. This allows you to reach even larger milestones. Talk about a huge increase in your positive mindset.

Maintaining a positive mindset is not always easy as an entrepreneur, especially if you’re a solopreneur. But don’t get down on yourself when you have failures along the way. Allow for flexibility and and reroute when needed. Limit your negative mental intake, increase those positive messages, and you will soar.

Always be setting new goals and working towards new dreams. Allow yourself to dream and to go for those dreams. Encourage yourself toward success and you will be a happier person as a result.
