How to Help in a Time of Crisis

By Charles Forman

Crisis. It is a word that we have heard a plethora of times over the last year. It is a word that used to mean something extraordinary happened, but now it has taken on a new meaning. We live our day-to-day lives in a crisis, and it seems to be getting worse every day. With Covid-19 deaths rising, the United States in political turmoil (more troops in Washington D.C. than in Afghanistan and Iraq), and the economic shock from Covid-19. While these challenges are certainly hitting different people at different levels differently, many at the top have been outspoken advocates for those who cannot advocate for themselves. But what are they doing, and is it working?

A notable example of this is Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports. For the last few years, Mr. Portnoy has run a series on both his personal account, as well as the Barstool account where he rates and reviews pizza. Having gone to thousands of different restaurants, meeting the different people who empower these places, and trying their products, he has seen what a business can mean for a family, and for its employees. Mr. Portnoy does get harsh feedback for his flamboyant, arrogant personality, however, he has used his large public image for good.
