Summary

The article discusses the therapeutic use of psilocybin mushrooms, emphasizing the importance of letting go of mental and societal constructs to achieve healing and self-liberation.

Abstract

The author builds upon a previous guide on healing with psilocybin mushrooms, recommending it as foundational reading. The article pays homage to thought leaders like Terrance McKenna, Aldous Huxley, Timothy Leary, Ralph Metzner, and Ram Dass, whose works have contributed significantly to the understanding of psychedelics. It delves into the concept of mental and societal constructs that shape human perception and behavior, often leading to cycles of suffering. The author argues that psilocybin can offer a glimpse of life beyond these constructs, providing an experience of unconditional love and aiding in the recognition and release of limiting beliefs. I previously wrote a 5 step guide on how to effectively use psilocybin to heal yourself. I’d suggest reading it first before jumping into this article. This article builds off of information from that article.

I would like to begin this article with an expression of gratitude for Terrance McKenna, Aldous Huxley, Timothy Leary, Ralph Metzner & Ram Dass. A lot of wisdom lives in their many books and speeches on the topic. I highly recommend the following books by each person:

Terrance Mckenna — Food of the Gods: The Search for the Original Tree of Knowledge A Radical History of Plants, Drugs, and Human Evolution

Aldous Huxley — The Doors of Perception

Timothy Leary, Ralph Metzner & Ram Dass — The Psychedelic Experience: A Manual Based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead

Ram Dass — Be Here Now

The prisoner who doesn’t know that they are in a prison

We operate by many mental and societal constructs every day, consciously and unconsciously. We identify the color red as red because that’s what we were taught to do. This helps us understand this world and operate within it. It’s very common for a person to get attached to these models of reality. It’s understandable to cling to what’s most comfortable, even if it’s painful. There are many models that limit and entrap us in cycles of suffering that most of us are not aware of.

The mental model of capitalism. Buy this object to live a happier life. Collect this made up and temporary object of value (money) to live a happier life. It’s an attachment to an idea that isn’t actually fulfilling. It’s false advertisement. The many models of how people should be viewed and treated by others are too. Not that long ago marriage was viewed as an exchange of goods and women were considered property. A mental model filled with no truth. We operate by many of these models so much that we find ourselves right here, right now, reading this article. A materialistic society that once again, is hoping to gain a happier or more fulfilling life through a material in psychedelics. There is great grace in this material, however. An abundance of unconditional love. Condition-less love. With it, we can make the profane sacred. We can transcend the many constructs that we have operated by, dissolve the ones we no longer want, and even create new ones based in our own relative truth.

The prisoner who gets a glimpse of life outside of prison

Life outside of prison begins when you can accept that you are in a prison. That’s what makes many psychedelic experiences tough. Our egos do not want to accept such conditions, especially when it’s shown to us we are the prisoner and the prison ward of the prison that is our mind. Suffering shows us what thought patterns we are attached to the most. When we use these substances, we get a glimpse of what life is like without these attachments. We get a glimpse of what condition less love is.

Most of our lives operate in a conditional love. I love you because of what you have done for me. I love you because of what you can do for me. What if we said I love you because I love you? I don’t need a reason to love you, I just do. I don’t need to compare your life path to mine to determine how much I love you. I don’t need to see how well you can do a job or express an artistic skill. I love you because I love you. You are love, as am I. You will get a glimpse of pure unconditional love on these substances. You also will realize the many constructs that we were taught to follow, do not allow us to be this love to ourselves and others. It’s all ok. This substance assists us in letting go of the constructs that prevent pure love from flowing.

The prisoner who returns to prison

Every glimpse of life outside of prison is temporary. You still come down. You still return to the prison. That is what’s necessary right now. This moment can be filled with a lot of despair. I had a moment of psychosis during my first come down. All reactions to such an experience are valid and ok.

What you will begin to realize with more and more psychedelic experiences is that you have always been enough. You have always known how to heal yourself. Simply, your attachments to that which is causing you suffering have prevented you from healing. Give it up. It’s not about being healed. It’s about letting go. If you can’t immediately give up an attachment today, try giving up just a small part of it. Try another small part tomorrow, and so on and so on.

With this substance we can learn what it feels like to let go of our attachments and subsequently, how to continue to let go of our attachments in our day-to-day lives. We can learn how to chop wood and carry water. What works for me is not guaranteed to work for you. That is a unique insight that you will uncover during your own psychedelic experience. We all have operated by many different constructs. There is no one size fits all approach for this stage in our karma yoga. These insights will help you understand clearly the constructs that have prevented you from liberating yourself from the prison of your mind and how to flow with the unconditional love of this present moment.

Namaste.
