How To Have A Wedding Without Breaking The Bank

Weddings are exciting! It is a time to celebrate the beginning of your life together, forever. However, one of the most stressful things about a wedding is how expensive it can be. Weddings have become such a commodity over the years. But I’m here to tell you, from experience, that your wedding does not have to be expensive and it can still turn out to be the best night ever!

From the moment my husband and I were engaged, we talked about funding our wedding. We did not have a lot of money and neither of us cared to have an extravagant wedding. We wanted to avoid beginning our forever journey, in debt from having spent too much on a wedding.

We thought of just eloping! But my sweet mother-in-law (May she Rest In Peace) found out and she was not happy about it! Shortly after, we found out she had cancer so we dropped the idea of eloping and began to plan our wedding.

Here’s how we did it without breaking the bank:

  1. Agreed on a budget.
  2. A lot of DIYs, and bought craft materials from dollar tree and Walmart. Then YouTube and Pinterest were my go-to for ideas.
  3. Started and finished DIYs ahead of time.
  4. Invited only the closest and most important people.
  5. Asked for help. Not financially. We offered to buy and tip for things we needed. Friends and family are the best people who will come through for you for setting up, decorating, photography, and cleaning up too!
  6. Bought flowers in bulk and made the bouquets, and boutonnieres, and used the rest for centerpieces.
  7. Bought the booze(alcohol) from A wholesale store like Costco or Sam’s club.
  8. Served easy appetizers/snacks like fruit. I cut the fruits the morning of my wedding.
  9. Did my makeup.
  10. Rented a venue that came with a sweet deal with tables and chairs included. It was a small local business venue and so it was less expensive than other popular venues.

Bottom line is that weddings shouldn’t have to be over the top for them to be memorable. Your loved ones are there to celebrate with you, not judge your entertainment skills. So reframe from spending all your money or money you don’t have on the wedding because after the wedding, your forever life together begins and you don’t want to start by being in debt! So be smart and spend frugally and your special night will still be amazing! Happy wedding planning!
