How to Guarantee You’ll Earn at Least $35 Per Medium Story

…and the answer might be different than you think

Medium is a great place for writers to earn money, using the partner program. But those earning are just part of the picture. Most writers won’t earn anywhere near $35 per story until they’ve built a big-enough fan base to boost their work.

However, all writers can benefit from a platform outside of Medium.

We can ensure a healthy future for our writing business and prevent someone else from being in charge of our income.

I don’t want to discount the earning power of Medium. Once you’ve run the gauntlet of a few slow months, your work will grow into a reasonable monthly income. Many writers earn over a $1,000 per month.

The monthly writing income is icing on the cake.

Where we really earn our money is through building a tribe we own. Through this tribe-building we can earn well over $35 for every story we write. Keep reading and I’ll tell you how.

The bigger income is from keeping a lifetime reader.

The bigger income is from serving your tribe on a grander scale.

The bigger income is through helping other people get what they want before you get what you want.

Aim your writing at the target

If you want to earn more money from your Medium stories, you’ve got to know where you’re going before you type the first word.

I never create content for the sake of creating content.

Every word gets put to work. Every story has a bigger purpose. Every article, a greater plan. All my content is one little piece of some giant, sailboat puzzle. The finished image makes sense, but looks a little stupid if there are some pieces missing.

No one is coming.

As writers, if we want our work to succeed, we’ve got to force it in the right direction — put our shoulders into it and push. Nope, there are no guarantees with any of this. Our job is to give the writing the best chance we can. Provide food and a roof.

Once we give our writing the best start, we push it into the world and hope our readers enjoy it. Some writing hits. Some doesn’t. But we never stop. All the work is aimed towards the target. Some of the work will hit the bulls-eye.

We write towards one common goal.

The writing builds a tribe.

The tribe supports our best work.

This is how we earn $35 (at least) per Medium story. This process is the long-game. Eventually the slow growth curve will hockey-stick to a place we never thought possible.

But we’ve got to do the work today to reap the benefits tomorrow.

Start growing your tribe yesterday

As writers and creators the problem isn’t the content. There are plenty of great writers out there. The problem is the audience — they don’t have one.

There’s nothing worse than spending six months or a year of your life writing a book with no audience. It’s a sinking feeling. We publish the book, tell the world, and nothing happens. We get five sales from people we know. Then we start the next book.

I don’t know about you, but that’s not the way I want to spend my writing life.

Not everyone agrees with me. Many writers have no interest in building a tribe. They believe the work should stand on its own legs. While a noble pursuit, I believe these writers leave a lot of their income on the table — income they deserve.

Medium is a great place to build your tribe.

Not only will you earn money from your best writing, but you’ll also earn a portion of these readers over to your list. When you’ve got a loyal tribe, they’ll be there — ready for when you finish your next book.

The tribe is part of the process. They get to watch you rise among the ranks. Your tribe wants you to succeed. They’re vested in your content.

If you want to build your own tribe, I’ve created an email masterclass to help you get your first 1,000 readers (or your next 1,000) without spending a sour penny on ads.
