How to Get Rid of Negative Thoughts?

Easy ways to fight the monkey brain without upsetting people

According to the research, 80% of our thoughts are negative.

So, yes, if you feel that you’re being negative, don’t worry, it’s part of your system.

But the good news is that you have the power to change those thoughts, limit them and think of something else. When you learn to control your negative thoughts, good things will happen in your life, and even if something bad happens, you’ll look on the bright side.

Every good thought begins with gratitude

If you’re being grateful every day, you won’t get negative thoughts in the first place.

Over the years I’ve developed this habit of writing 10 things I am grateful for before having breakfast. These can be simple things like home, friends, family, and a healthy body.

Make gratitude part of your life, it’ll open doors to miracles.

Write your thoughts

When you get negative thoughts, grab a notepad and write things down. Put all your negativity on paper. Once you empty your mind, you’ll feel relaxed and ready to take on the world.

Do something that excites you

I love reading. So, when a negative thought comes to me, I grab my Medium app and read my saved articles. It gives me motivation and helps me forget what I was thinking.

For unlimited reading, enroll in the $5 monthly membership:

Figure out what excites you and do that. Whether it is writing, painting, singing, or talking with your best friend. Do it whenever a negative thought hits you.

Change your posture

Tony Robbins talks about changing your posture to change your thoughts.

If you’re standing, sit down. If you’re already on a chair, stand up and start walking.

A little change in your posture will fire neurons in your brain and you’ll feel energized.

Start praying

A simple pray can do wonders. Discuss your situation with GOD and ask HIM to help you out.

The more humble you become in front of GOD, the more positivity you’ll get from HIM.

When you feel tensed or scared, pray for a better life. Pray to GOD for giving you a way out.

Visualize

As kids we visualize everything. But as we grow old, we lose the magic of visualization.

Whenever you feel triggered by a negative thought, close your eyes and imagine the good times in your life. You can even imagine a great future. What good do you want to happen in your life? Imagine that.

Recite affirmations

Read the affirmation list and grab the ones that seem closest to your heart. I suggest reciting these affirmations multiple times a day. When you pour these affirmations into your brain, it will be difficult for your mind to get lost in the negative thoughts.

Have a conversation with a super optimistic friend

Talk with those rate gems that never fail to make you smile.

Call a friend who is passionate about life. Ask him questions about success, life, death, and what it feels like to fail.

If you check my Facebook profile, it’s filled with quotes that I either write myself or take inspiration from somewhere. You’ll surely feel motivated when you visit the profile.

Write a LinkedIn post

I’ve recently started working on my LinkedIn profile. Every day I sat and share my thoughts with the world. You can do the same.

Pour your negative thoughts and post them. Read what other people are sharting. Follow amazing people and read their posts. Connect with passionate people. Tag a friend to a relevant job update.

Read a book

I use this as a weapon against negativity. My library is filled with motivational books that I re-read whenever I feel down. Subscribe to Ryan Holiday’s book suggestion list and every week you’ll get a list of books that might change your life.
