How To Get My Content To Stand Out On Medium
In today’s realm of online writing, the competition is fierce. With so many articles and blogs out there, it becomes very easy for one’s work to get lost in the mix. Most of the time, it can get lost in the mix without any real exposure, especially with the millions of readers and writers on this platform.
How many articles are out there that are just mere copies of what is out there? How many blog posts are about the same subject? It is just the same content that is being recycled repeatedly.
The one downfall of digital writing is how saturated it has become. There is so much content out there that it becomes overwhelming and more difficult to attract readers.
What can we do as writers?
After experimenting with several methods, I found that putting a personal touch into my writing works best for me. I started utilizing this method when I was 16 years old. Writing from my own life experience and applying it to my writing is natural and doesn’t come across as being forced.
I try to avoid using an overabundance of technical terminology if I am writing from my niche. I go back to writing about personal experiences. My primary subjects are parenting two teenage boys with autism and running. If I didn’t write from my own experience and just straight reporting of facts and using only statistics, my readers would be bored. I know I would be.
My advice to my fellow writers is to be yourself in the writing process. Be an original, and don’t copy another style. Offer something different and bring something new to the table. Do something nobody has ever done before. Remember, the best ones always stood out from the crowd. They were not following the masses. They were different.
I am not a business writer, and I don’t know how to optimize content for search engines or algorithms. I don’t chase the trendy topics to write about. I find all those subjects rather uninspiring. I am just a storyteller on my path with my unique perception.
Being an original will get your content to stand out.
