I went from 0 to 600 followers in 60 days with this simple strategy
How to Get Followers on Medium
Getting followers on Medium is as easy as following as many people as you can everyday. In this article, I show you how to find people to follow on Medium.
When I started writing on Medium 2 months ago, I had no idea how I would go from 0 followers as a new member to ever reach the heights of someone like wonderful writer Thomas Oppong (149K followers).
Thankfully I found Tom Kuegler’s Medium blog, which led me to his email newsletter, where he then offered me the following excellent advice:
“Follow 50 people EVERY. DAY.
5–10 people WILL follow you back every day.
In your first month, you should have 150–300 new Medium Member followers.”
— Tom Kuegler in his email “Your First 1,000 Followers”
I have followed that tip ever since then with fantastic results!
600 followers in 60 days
Here is how to find people to follow and start growing your audience — and it’s how I got 600 followers in my first 60 days on Medium:
1.Find a recent, popular article on Medium in your niche, such as by searching the Medium tag, for example the tag for Technology.
2. Open that article, and click on the list of people who have clapped for the article (it will be at the bottom of the article).
3. Follow every Medium member in that list — those with the green line around their profile. If members read and/or clap for your articles, you will earn money through the Medium Partner Program.
There is a “Daily Follow Limit” of 150 people — you can only click that Follow button so many times before Medium stops you from spamming.
Don’t forget the basics
- Publishing Medium articles that get curated as frequently as possible is going to be the key to getting followers, obviously.
- Your profile should be up-to-date and catchy, including a good photo and a descriptive headline. Make people want to follow you.
- Reading and clapping on other people’s articles on Medium can help too — the author may follow you back, but don’t count on it.
One strategy to rule them all
The math simply is too strong — if only 1 in 25 people follow you back (4%), then 150 follows a day leads to 6 followers a day.
Kept up with robotic efficiency, that leads to 2,190 new followers in a year, plus the followers who come from reading your articles on Medium.
And, since the latter will naturally have a slow, exponential growth as you write more and more on Medium, 10k+ followers is truly possible.
I’ll check back in with you when I get there myself. Good luck out there!
