How to Gain New Followers on Medium
Tips for new writers on how to get followers
Every writer wants to get new followers and grow on Medium. It requires patience, time, and effort.
Here are some do’s and don’t’s on how to grow your following.
What to do to get new followers
Write quality content consistently
Back when I started writing on Medium in May 2020, I had 0 followers. I’ve been writing consistently since day one. I’ve been pumping out articles every other day and sometimes every day. My following has been growing slowly but steadily.
As of now, I have over 400 followers.
Never trade quality for quantity
Your top priority is to ensure your article is of high quality before you publish it. Never skimp on quality to produce quantity. Take your time if you need to.
Quality means you not only ensure you produce high-quality content, but you also have to edit and proofread it vigorously to make it shine.
Read and give feedback to other writers
Read articles from other writers and leave thoughtful feedback in the comments. Sometimes writers who read your comments check out your profile and read your articles too. If they like your content, they’ll want to be your followers.
What NOT to do if you want new followers
Follow random people hoping they’ll follow you back
This is one of the worst ways to gain new followers. Your readers become followers based on the content they read. Those people who blindly follow you will never read your content and be your loyal readers. You want to attract readers who will be there in the long haul.
Write only once a week or once a month
If you only write once a month or write when you feel like it, you can’t expect a lot. There won’t be a lot of people seeing your content. To gain the attention of new readers and grow your followers fast, you need to show up and put in the work regularly. Aim for producing content every day, or at least three times a week.
Rush through your articles and hit Publish
The more high-quality articles you produce regularly, the faster you will grow and gain readership. But if you rush to hit publish, your articles won’t be of stellar quality.
Keep writing and keep improving. Write with consistency. The followers will come naturally.
Happy Writing!
