MANAGING MEDIUM

How to Follow Favorite Writers on Medium — Part 2

Using lists of lists in your profile’s Library (short)

Follow-up on the option of saving lists of profiles you want to follow on Medium and other social media. Each profile maintains lists, which you can also save.

Once upon a time, we had professional movers come and pack up our household items and move them a few states away. “Professional Movers” meant a con man who claimed to be a recent transplant from New York. He said he was born and raised there but talked like he was from Simi Valley with a distinctive California dialect and accent. “So like, you can go, like, outside, and we’ll like, take care of like, EVERYTHING! Like, no worries!” Big grin. His helpers were recent parolees.

My boring typist Patricia Jeanne sees data and systems like the boxes that ended up in the van. Humans like Patricia Jeanne, and their silly possessions make no sense to me — it’s all email spam.

She made me write this and only let me be slightly snarlcastic —

My half-wittedness and some tech/system ideas may have been overwhelming in the previous post addressing Annoying Ignorance (AI).

If you want to keep track of your favorite writers, and their favorites, and your friends’ favorites…

You might be a stalker.

Or, a humanoid who wants to weed out Artificial Intelligence recycled poop. Patricia Jeanne’s making me write these because someone asked how to do this.

The following examples focus on your profile’s Library. To access this, click on your profile image and choose the third option — Library.

Here’s what my Lists landing page looks like in my Library.

I keep an eye on Patricia Jeanne and follow her. If she writes too much, I get jealous and repeatedly jump on her left kidney.

Here’s an example of Patricia Jeanne’s lists saved under the second tab’s “Saved lists” under my profile:

She’s got a ton of them. Pretend you see the one titled, “Patricia Jeanne’s Profiles to Follow.” It holds examples of the writers’ works she likes to read frequently.

Of course, she has others like, “Smart people, smart stories” holding stories she wants to return to. Some are private, like “Private because of killer robots infected with deadly diseases showing oozing sores.”

No, that one’s mine. Click the Private checkbox for your XXX-rated dinosaur porn.

Those profiles have their own saved lists you can also save, like “Jumpin’ Jack Flash’s Favorite Writers.” So, you and your gang of stalkers can be organized. Each time Jumpin’ Jack Flash adds a new writer’s story to their favorites, your saved list of his list will be updated.

A note from the typist

Having a second profile has been good for me. I take more chances under Lizzie Lizard Brain’s profile. I have wide interests, write in different styles, and am niche-less. I’ve covered some of the multiple-profile advantages in the piece I linked to above.

Because I do a lot of deep-dive research, I can get overwhelmed by serious topics. Sometimes, they’re more palatable (and get more reads) if I let Lizzie Lizard Brain’s snarlcasm handle them. Other times, her satire on a serious subject acts as a palette cleanser and cheers me up.

Medium earnings from Lizzie Lizard Brain’s profile (2 months old), rival those of my more in-depth pieces under Patricia Jeanne — one year old.

I write satire under both profiles, appearing in Medium publications MuddyUm, Doctor Funny, and The Haven. Lizzie Lizard Brain also shows up in Short and Weird, Dead or Alive, and others. (See lists! Or, profiles.)

Also, I don’t spend much time editing Lizzie Lizard Brain — sorry!

Helpful hint: If you decide to have a second profile, you’ll be bouncing around a lot. The ‘Reading History’ tab helps you find the story you’ll be sure you just read a minute ago and want to link to.

Thanks for reading!
