How to Find the Get Up and Go to Be More Productive Towards Goals

Learn how amazingly simple it really is

Wasting the Day

With everything going on around you both in your own personal life and in the world at large, you may be finding it difficult to get much done.

Do you ever get to the end of the day and think to yourself how you didn’t really do anything meaningful the whole day?

This is something that I’ve done on a number of occasions. I just felt like the day went by fast and I accomplished pretty much nothing. Then it was time to go to sleep.

This can’t keep happening! I want to do more and be more productive.

That was me.

The Problem

Well, procrastination was a big part of the problem for me, as was being all over the place mentally, carrying mental baggage, letting other people waste my time, always occupying unorganized physical spaces, and honestly just not being motivated.

I didn’t have much get-up-and-go about myself.

Does any of this look familiar to you?

Do you have some of these same habits that are getting you no where?

Do you want to change your unproductive habits?

You Will Fail

Well, it’s great that you want to change, but you won’t. You’ll tell yourself that you will do better but you’ll fail miserably time and time again.

You’ll fail at it unless you follow the right path to get you going in the right direction of change.

The good news is you can change, if you’re willing to take the necessary steps. It may not be real easy but it is very simple.

Are you up for the challenge?

What to Do

You’ve got to get your butt in gear!

Get some get-up-and-go!

But how do I do that? — you say

Set the Intention

So, when you’re sitting in a chair and you decide that you want to stand up from the chair, you intend to do so. Then, your intention is relayed to your brain, which brings about the act of you standing up.

See how this works?

This is how your intention operates. Yes, intending to accomplish anything more complex won’t be as easy as standing up from a chair. But, it is as simple because the mental process to physical manifestation is the same.

Make up in your mind what you intend to accomplish. Then, follow a plan to make it happen.

Map Out a Plan

Goal-setting is not out of style!

You need something to shoot for and it’ll work out best if you organize ideas and make a blueprint of how you will reach your goals.

You must plan if you plan to succeed.

“Set no targets and you will get nowhere.” — Grant Cardone

Figure out what it is that you want.

Maybe it’s a certain amount of money, a house or car, a promotion at work, to go on a vacation, to give to a charity, to pay for college, lose weight, start a business, retire early, help your family, make a living freelancing, etc.

Whatever your goals, write or type them out and then a plan on how to make them happen. Base the plan around what it will take to reach the goals.

The best way that I’ve found to work a plan is to have a bunch of daily plans for every day. You know the old saying about eating the elephant one bite at a time? That’s what I do. I schedule time to get things done, complete with alerts in my phone.

Determine the Vehicles

After mapping out your plan, you’ll need to figure out how you will execute the plan.

Ask yourself: “How can I make it happen?” “What will it take?”

You will need to identify vehicles you will use to get you to where you want to be such as steps to take, resources, time, and a schedule to work towards the goals.

Get Up and Go

I know! It’s sometimes a challenge to get motivated, especially when you know there’s plenty of work to be done and sometimes you just don’t even know where to start.

The best thing to do in this situation is to JUST START.

Yes. Get your plan out for the day and follow it.

And don’t forget that your physical and mental energy levels will depend on how well you take care of yourself.

A health diet, intermittent fasting, sleep, rest, deep breathing, mindfulness, exercise, meditating, intention manifestation, and positive affirmations are all part of my plan to take care of myself — and it pays off!

BEGIN Executing the Plan

Notice that I’ve put the word BEGIN in all caps.

This is the point where you need to apply the get-up-and-go.

So, get started already!

Many a plan has failed simply because the person didn’t get started.

No matter what, push through and complete your tasks.

Work Your Plan When You Don’t Feel Like It

Success is intentional, like standing up from the chair. Remember?

Plant the intention and put the wheels in motion to make something happen — whatever it is.

Get and stay on the grind, even when you don’t necessarily feel like doing it. Stick with your plan.

“You won’t get much done if you only grind on the days you feel good.” — Grant Cardone

Monitor Progress

I like to keep inventory on how I’m progressing.

For example, with writing Medium, it’s easy to see stats, charts, and other tools to measure progress.

Seeing gains and even losses in your progress towards your goals helps keep you on track on your success journey.

Acknowledge Small Successes

I am glad when I accomplish something. And, I try not to compare my wins with that of anybody else. Sometimes that’s hard though, I know! But really, don’t beat yourself up if you’re coming along slowly with your progress.

The main thing is to be consistent and don’t give up, and your cumulative efforts will pay off.

Celebrate Milestones

When you do achieve goals, celebrate them however you choose. But make sure it’s something that feels like a reward to you. Like having some ice cream, taking a nap, drinking a glass of red wine (my favorite), posting your achievement for others to celebrate with you, buying a gift for yourself, or what have you. Just do it!

Finish What You Start

Success is in getting done with something, not being perfect at it. And, even if it’s not everything that you wanted, it is still a success if you’ve completed the journey. You can say that you were productive and you got it done. This is what I do!

The Takeaway

Let’s recap on how to get the get up and go to be more productive towards achieving your goals.

  1. Set the Intention
  2. Map Out a Plan
  3. Determine the Vehicles
  4. Get Up and Go
  5. Begin Executing the Plan
  6. Work Your Plan When You Don’t Feel Like It
  7. Monitor Your Progress
  8. Acknowledge Small Successes
  9. Celebrate Milestones
  10. Finish What You Start

It’s not hard but does require some showing up on your part. It all boils down to what you really want. Success is a process.
