How To Find More Time In Your Day And Accomplish More In Life
How do successful people get to where they want to be? They have the same 24 hours and surely a load of other responsibilities on top of everything, just like we all do. So how have they found the time to work with everything else life handed them? I, personally, have many things I want to do, and it feels like the older I get, the more difficult of a balancing act life becomes.
Not only do we have to figure out how to get all we need to be checked off of our to-do list, but each day we are also expected to find time to work out, have a social life, and have a moment for ourselves and our sanity as well! Here are two things that have helped me get more of a grasp on my life. I have a lot of goals and things I want to accomplish in this lifetime, so finding extra time felt like having a superpower.
Cutting Netflix out of my life
A huge step that I took that gave me so much more time to work on things that are actually benefiting me was to cut Netflix out of my life. For a part of my childhood, I grew up without a TV. I remember how much it shocked my classmates, who I would tell at the time. They couldn’t even begin to imagine a life without their favorite TV shows! Uncoincidently enough, I found other ways to entertain myself. I feel grateful for that decision my parents made. I feel that it developed my creativity.
Now, don’t get me wrong... I love movies and Netflix just like anyone else does. There is a lot of creativity, amazing storytelling, and knowledge to be found. But boy, does it take up my time! As soon as I made the painful decision to take a break on Netflix, I suddenly had all the time I needed. I remember feeling real hope out for my aspirations thanks to the change that one decision brought me. If you can’t commit to taking completely out of your life, start with boundaries on how many times a week you will watch and for how long. Then.. watch the magic begin! You’ll see how much time you have and how doable it is to get everything you want to be completed.
Prioritize the important things first
I like having good grades in school. It makes me nervous to not be on top of things. Despite this, I made a conscious choice to put my studies lower on my priorities list. Why? Because there are other things on my list that I need to get to for my success. I want to be an entrepreneur, and I found that I didn’t have the energy after a long day of studying and homework. I could make excuses very easily. The simple ones, like “I’m too tired, I’ll do it tomorrow.”. Well, tomorrow never came, and when it didn’t come after a while, I realized I needed to make a change. I decided to put my work for my side hustle at the top of my list because I would get my school work done no matter what. It makes me uneasy about turning in bad work into a professor. So even if I had to stay up late at night, I would do that in order to get the work done.
I enjoy working on my personal projects, and because of this, it doesn’t take away as much of my energy. I’m still able to work on school later in the day. I’m not saying to forget all of your other responsibilities! Not at all! Education is important. I’m saying to make a list of the things you want to get done. How can you switch your schedule around to ensure that you will have enough energy to do everything on that list? Usually, we often like to overestimate how much energy and brainpower we will have in a day. Be honest with yourself, and try to create a schedule that will allow you to get everything done, even if that means switching up your routine a bit!
What do you want to accomplish in this life? I know that my list is long, and I’m sure yours is as well. We, as humans, are creative beings, and it feels wonderful to see yourself create a dream from scratch. I wish you this happiness as well. I know you can find it. These two habits I added to my life are not complicated at all, but they are effective! I hope this knowledge helps you in your journey. If you choose to implement them into your life, you will find that they work wonders to getting you closer to where you want to be.
