How To Find Internships

Summer is here …
Now that it is summer, what do you do as a college student? Some of the options that come up on top of my head have fun and go on a vacation. Nonetheless, I also think that summer is an excellent opportunity to do some productive things as a college student as well.
For example, going on a summer internship. I already touched up on how to get an internship in a previous article. However, today, I will elaborate on the subject of how to find internships.
I remember when I was an undergraduate in college, I knew that internships were useful and essential to craft a compelling resume, gain experience, and open doors for my career as a professional.
But I didn’t know where to find them. That’s why I decided to write this article.
On this article, I will share with you what is an internship, why you should attend one and give you some online resources you may use to find internships.
What is an internship?
An internship program is an opportunity a company or institution offers to students or potential candidates to work at the company for some time.
Some companies offer summer internships, which you can participate during the summer break as a college student. An internship can be paid or unpaid depending on the organization that hosts it.
Why go on an internship?
I believe that attending an internship has various benefits for college students. When I was a Computer Science undergraduate major in college, I attended internships. During this time, I acquired new skills, met current working professionals in the technology industry as well as academia, which you can do as well. Also, you can add the internship experience to your resume. Which is great because when you start applying to jobs after graduation, you will already have work experience that you can talk about on the job interviews.
Another reason I believe internships are great opportunities for college students is that if you do a great job, the company might have a full-time open position and offer you a job. So, that’s something to think about as a college student that is currently about to graduate and to look to enter the professional world.
Where to find internships online?
Here some resources you can use to find internships online:

Other ways to find internships
Another way you can find internship opportunities is to check on your college’s campus. You can visit the career services office and ask for the different internship opportunities that may know of. Also, you can go directly (or send an email) to the company you would like to intern for and ask them if they have an internship program.
On campus, job fairs and hackathons are ways you can learn about internship opportunities
Job fairs (also known as career fairs) are a way where you can find out of current internship opportunities. If you are interested in going an internship for a tech-related position, such as software engineering or related field, hackathons can be a way where you can find internships. In my experience, some in-person hackathons have job fairs where you can approach different company employees and ask if they have internship programs.
Conclusion
Internships are a great way to start adding work experience to your resume and connecting with current professionals in the industry you want to work in after graduating. If you do a great job, you might even translate the internship opportunity to a job offer; it’s a possibility. You never know if you don’t try.
