How To Find Direction In Life? The Secret Is By Being Bored

Could Boredom Be The Answer?

Yes, you read the title correctly.

It’s not about working so hard that you over-exhaust yourself.

It's not about grinding and hustling until you fall flat face down on the ground.

That may encompass part of your journey of self-development and growth, but it is not the end in itself.

The trick to finding direction is being bored.

Why is being bored the key to finding direction?

You get time to think about what you want in life.

Yes, this means eliminating all the bullsh*t in your life and focusing on what you want in life.

It is about reflecting, thinking and working towards the life you want.

All of which, you can’t do if you are hustling 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

You need time to unwind and get in check with what you want.

More often than not, this happens when people get bored.

How so?

Eg a redundancy. When being made redundant, a person is bored and now has time to pivot to start a new business venture.

You do not need to be laid off before you pivot and find your direction in life. You can proactively seek direction in life by being bored of your current situation.

True creativity is born when we don’t have external stimuli distracting us

I heard about this concept from Antony Vicino.

Our minds work best when it is allowed to wander freely and recollect and process the thoughts that happened throughout the day.

Hence, sometimes your best ideas come when you are showering or sitting idle at a cafe waiting for your coffee.

Studies have also shown that daydreaming boosts creativity and your ability to solve tasks. It allows our mind to roam and explore ideas that may be difficult to access when it it focused on addressing the usual cognitive functions that we use it for in our day. When we allow our minds to wander, it gives our brains a chance to explore different perspectives and make unexpected connections between those ideas.

Boredom serves as a motivational factor to do stuff

When you are bored you are more likely to find new problems to solve, new ways to add value and new stuff to get done.

By being ultra busy you won’t have time to do new stuff that matters to you.

Eg finding new ways of solving problems, creating new businesses, pursuing business ventures etc.
