How to Feel Better About Your Future With One Website

It takes just 2 minutes, and we all need it right now.

I was born and raised in a small town where everyone knew everything about everybody. A town where people openly criticized me for wearing Dr. Martens’ boots and Nirvana T-shirts — yes, I had a grunge phase.

All I wanted was to leave. To live in a huge city where I could just be myself. I wanted to escape from the present.

Recently a similar feeling resurfaced. Just as I was thinking of making 2020 my b***h everything went down, and I felt helpless.

So I remembered an old website that I used when things weren’t going well in my life. And now I want to share it with you.

Future me

Future me is a very intuitive and easy to navigate web site.

The process is very easy:

  • Write a letter to yourself
  • Decide when you want that letter delivered back to you (1 week, 2 months, 1 year…)
  • Enter your email address
from Futureme.org

That’s it! And when the delivery day comes you’ll have forgotten about it and it will be an unexpected present.

Write the e-mail as you would write to your best friend

In the mail, you can be encouraging and caring for your future self, but as friends do, you can even remind yourself of the ugly truth.

  • Are you still eating Doritos in bed? Please, stop it.
  • Did you meet your goal of becoming the best writer ever on Medium?
  • There’re plants still alive in your apartment?
  • Have you figured out how to do your taxes?

Then you can be nice.

  • Hang in there pal, I know it’s hard right now, don’t be so hard on yourself.
  • Don’t bother about the weight gain, you’re healthy and that’s all that matter.
  • Did you finally do the laundry? Yay, good for you!
  • You survived. And you’ll keep surviving.

Write everything that comes into your mind. Just let it all out.

It will make you feel better, it will make your future self feel better.
