Honesty

How To Deal With Inner Doubts And Worries When Conflict Arises?

What I Learned From Vehicle Insurance Renewal

Sometimes you have doubts about someone, but you have to deal with that person to get things done, and as a result, you tend to worry and struggle.

How did you deal with this kind of situation?

Recently, I’ve encountered something similar.

My car insurance is due to expire in June of this year. I called Lewis, the broker who sold me the insurance last year. Someone answered the phone and told me that Lewis was no longer with the company.

And, this person didn’t show interest in my needs.

So I decided to call Lewis directly at the number he left me last year. Lewis was very happy and quickly applied for my renewal offer. He made the contract and all I had to do was the sign and pay.

When I asked to meet him somewhere to complete the paperwork, as we did last time, Lewis said he lives far away from me and he works from home. In other words, he didn’t want to meet me.

That’s a bit risky!

The premiums for the new year have gone up quite a bit because my son just got his driver’s license and it’s a huge expense for me.

How can I pay so much money to a stranger without getting an insurance certificate?

Why doesn’t he want to see me?

Is he the Lewis of last year? After all, we’ve only met once.

Do I have to go back to the old company and find someone else?

Weird thoughts flooded into my mind and made me restless.

In the end, I decided whether or not this offended Lewis, to tell him my doubts and concerns directly.

To my surprise, Lewis immediately showed understanding. He explained that as a registered broker if he misused my information, he would be arrested because it was illegal.

He also suggested that I call the company he works for to verify his identity.

Later, I called Lewis’s company. The information I got reassured me. Then things went smoothly.

Closing Thoughts:

This experience has taught me how to deal with my inner doubts and worries when the unexpected happens.

1. Accept my inner negative feelings

When I felt anxious and full of doubts, I didn’t rush to blame myself or others. I just took time to deal with my negative emotions and spent time with them as I would do with my children!

This step calmed me down, made me listen to myself, and figure out what I really wanted.

2. Tell the other person honestly about my doubts and concerns

Most people will appreciate others’ honesty, even if someone feels offended, that’s okay!

At least in this way, I can learn more about the people I am dealing with.

If Lewis was dissatisfied with my questioning, or even got angry, then I would decide to break the deal and find another broker.

All of this information helps me make a better choice.

3. There is no need to feel ashamed to verify important information

Even with strangers, I feel reluctant to show distrust, but when it comes to important issues such as money, I cannot give up verifying important information for the sake of face.

After all, I am the one who suffers the most if something goes wrong.

The above three steps are widely known, but it isn’t easy to live up to them. However, it is never too late to get start.
