How to Create Harmony in Your Home & Routine

Love who you are

“There is not a fragment in all nature, for every relative fragment of one thing is a full harmonious unit in itself.” ― John Muir, The Wilderness World of John Muir

As I set out on this journey of exploring habits and routines in my daily life, did I know how much I would learn about myself? During this 100-day exploration, I seek to learn, grow and share my life.

I believe that when you go inwards, you will find the gold within your heart.

I am someone who loves to create harmony and balance not only within my home but also in my daily schedule too. It is of great importance to me.

For a long while, I did not know why I was so focused on keeping things neat and organized. It all leads to the environment where I grew up.

It was only in the past few years I have discovered I am an Empath. I take on the emotions of others easily. Because of this, I seek peace, balance, and harmony in my days. It makes my life easier this way.

I realize this was because I grew up with my bipolar brother and my mother, whose mother was bipolar.

Because of the conflicts that would arise in my home and my sensitivity to it, I would seek to create peace in my surroundings.

I now view this as a gift. I learned how to adapt, be flexible, and create a space around me where I felt at ease. It is what I continue to explore every day through my work.

I used to think it was a curse, always having to tidy up before I got going on my work. Now I know it is a way of seeking refuge and harmony. I can feel safe creating from my heart.

I can love myself right here, in the routine that suits me best.

That is what I desire for each one of you. Do what works for you and creates that safe cocoon where you can open yourself to your creativity.

Here are some ways you can create harmony in your home.

Create your safe space to work

Experiment with spaces that work best for you. Perhaps you need a lot of light and outdoor views to spark your creativity and daily routine. Seek ways to create those spaces within your home.

Ask yourself how you like to work, for how long, and in what space. What surroundings inspire you?

Figure out if you need a lot of space around you to feel comfortable or if you prefer to work in a smaller room.

Find out what colors feel best to you. I currently work in an office that is light green, and it feels as if nature is all around me. I find it soothing to be in here.

We are working towards creating a Japanese tatami or straw mat room here. The space is minimal, and once we install the tatami mats and wood frame, I intend to work from a low desk with a floor chair.

This room doubles as a guest room, and we have chosen a simple futon with a backrest pillow and a pretty screen to accent it.

The more I remove from this room, the better I feel. I work best in a simple, clean environment where I can think clearly.

How do you feel about your home and workspace? Does it feel safe, welcoming, and inspiring?

Figure out your creative time

I have always been a morning person. I get most of my ideas during the early hours of the day. Once it is past noon, I enjoy my free time.

My son, however, works best later in the day. His creative juices get flowing in the afternoon and evenings.

I believe everyone is different. Find the best creative time for you.

When you work within your harmony and flow, you will connect with the part of yourself that is most creative.

When is your most creative time?

Love how things work out for you

Recently, I have learned more about how to go with the flow of life. It has caused me to love whatever is going on.

I consider chaos or unrest within me gives me a chance to learn, grow and stretch beyond my comfort zone. The more I allow whatever it is to come to the surface, the easier it is to come back to harmony.

By considering most everything to be a lesson or a gift, we can find the flow.

Instead of coming from a place of pressure, I have decided to live from inspiration and growth. Just as the cherry trees I planted this weekend need time to grow their roots before leaves appear, I need time to nurture myself so that I can flourish.

Loving what is can set us free.

How can you learn, grow and stretch by loving the present moment and going with the flow?

My prayer for you today is to explore your workspace, creative time, and whatever is going on in your life. Find the harmony that you can create between all of it.

Day #4: How can you create harmony in your environment and life?

These are quick, unedited videos to get me out of my comfort zone and back to sharing more of my life. The fun part is, I will improve as I go along!
