How to Create Better Content
A new newsletter created for the storyteller within us

To the recommendation of experienced Medium writers who don’t know my name, I’ve created my first newsletter. It’s been a humbling experience writing on Medium over the last month and a half, and I’ve learned so much.
I’m really excited with the progress I’ve made. I’ve had the privilege to showcase my work on some pretty big publications. It’s motivating. For the first time in a while, I feel committed to a platform.
I look forward to writing a little bit every day, and to connecting with others on Medium. I have so many ideas, and this newsletter is just one step forward.
What’s my newsletter about?
Since my freshman year of college, my best friends from high school and I have kept in touch. They were my best friends and still are. We have a lively group text-chat, but every so often, it goes dark.
I’d be about my own business, and I’d randomly receive a text saying, “vibe check?” It was my friends’ way of checking in on each other (well before the phrase “vibe check” became a popularized meme). We were always checking in on each other's vibes to make sure we were doing alright. This would often lead to discussing what we were currently working on. What were we studying? What we were creating.
My newsletter is called Vibe Check, and it serves two purposes. The first is to check in on my followers just like my friends would check in on me. It’s 2020. There’s a virus outside. Even though people are trying to return to their normal lives, it’s still scary. I want my newsletter to serve as a breath of fresh air in a world where it seems hard to breathe.
Secondly, I want Vibe Check to be a place for creators to learn. I’ve been educated in writing, but my first loves are photography and film. How do we combine different mediums like photography and writing into one? This is how content is created. Content is king. It is abundant, and it’s taking the world of marketing to another dimension.
My hope is that my newsletter appeals to the talented storyteller. I want to stir the pot and teach people how to tell elevated stories through photography and the written word. I want us to learn how to capture moments and share them, together.
