How to Correct Faulty Thinking

The power of mental force

Most of us have heard the term, “he or she has lost their mind.” Obviously, not the physical brain itself, but control of their thought process. You do not need to fall into this extreme example to admit that from time to time your own thought process seems faulty.

You are your mind. Your actions, desires, decisions, and everything you do stems from your mind within the physical structure of your brain.

For years scientists focused on the physical aspects of the brain. However, not that many decades ago, studies revealed that your brain is much more than a mass of brain tissue. The brain is influenced by the mind.

A number of years ago, I read a book which information may alter your thinking as it did mine — The Mind & The Brain, by Jeffrey M. Schwartz, M.D. and Sharon Begley. Dr. Schwartz a neuropsychiatrist and Sharon Begley an award-winning science columnist for the Wall Street Journal reveal through case studies and patient care the impact of the mind on the brain.

Dr. Schwartz set out to prove that your mind impacts the physical aspects of your brain. He worked extensively with patients suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD). By focusing on changing negative behavior patterns to positive behavior, his patients changed neural pathways in their brain. What does that mean?

It means that you and I, even after childhood, have the ability to rewire our brain. By changing your thinking using your mental force, you have the ability to make monumental changes in your behavior and actions as a result of what you are focusing on. This is profound.

It has been quite a while since I have considered these points and read Dr. Schwartz’s words. So it was refreshing when Diana C.’s prompt for this Tuesday touched on “frequency of thought.” Thank you Diana!

Racing thoughts, or changing your focus frequently, can happen as a result of various reasons. Faulty patterns already established in your mind, environment, and even certain diseases can contribute to this. From time to time it is not unusual to go off track with the need to refocus. However, when and if your frequency of thoughts are affecting your daily functioning, then it may be necessary to see a physician. It is never good to self-diagnose yourself or anyone else.

Dr. Schwartz’s writing confirmed something I have felt for quite some time. As a Christian, I am asked to transform my mind into a new personality. This is a new personality that reflects the wonderful aspects of God and his principles that are higher than mine. According to the Bible, this transformation is a result of taking in accurate knowledge and God’s spirit. What does all of this mean?

It means that people can change as a result of changing their mind, their thinking. Now, scientifically it proves the mind can actually rewire the brain with new circuitry. This is a wonderful hope for many people.

I don’t know about you, but for me this is phenomenal information. Of course, the question that now remains…Is there any part of your thought process that you would like to change?

Only you can answer that question.

Thank you for reading.
